Season 12 of the hit drama ‘NCIS’ returns to business as usual now that all the tumultuousness of Cote de Pablo’s leaving, Emily Wickershim’s being added to the cast, the New Orleans two-parter, and Ralph Waite’s passing are behind us.
“The goal with Season 12 is to get back to team-driven episodes of the show, storylines that really emphasize our working together as a team, and are focused on NCIS cases,” executive producer Gary Glasberg told yeahstub.com. “I promise we will leave the gate with a bang and be off and running. We have some really good stories planned.”
So what do we need to know going into Season 12 other than we return in real time, with the NCIS team having had the summer?
No. 1: Gibbs (Mark Harmon) has been busy in the basement.
“Gibbs has started building a boat in honor of his father,” says Glasberg. “[It was a] model that was presented to his mother. Now, he is going to be building a life-size version of that. He will work on that in the basement and there will be some progress on that by the time we get down there.”
No. 2: There will be a Ducky (David McCallum) origin episode, airing on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
“Basically, we are talking about a case where we bring Ducky back to London and, in the process of going back, he reconnects with his past,” Glasberg says. “We will be looking for a young David McCallum and the episode will tell us all kinds of things about Ducky, even down to elements like why the bow-tie.”
No. 3: We will meet Ellie Bishop’s (Wickershim) husband.
“Jake is her husband. He is with the NSA. We are really going to take this opportunity now that we’ve established her to scratch away a little bit at the surface, get to know her character, learn about her marriage. Understand when two people who are married and work at the NSA together, it is different if one of them breaks off. Real people at the NSA have told us great stories about that. We really want to start to dig into who she is,” Glasberg says.
No. 4: Tony Di Nozzo (Michael Weatherly) finds romance.
“We are going to introduce a love interest. It is time for Tony to grow. He has been in this process for the last year. We will have to see who he comes up with.”
No. 5: McGee (Sean Murray) stands by Delilah (Margo Harshman).
“McGee continues to have a relationship with Delilah, even though she is in Dubai. That relationship will continue and he comments on it. There is a little runner in the first episode, so watch for it.”
No. 6: Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) is definitely in the family way.
They are pregnant and they are going to adopt. The baby will move in real time and we will find a fun, appropriate time for this man’s wife to give birth.”
No. 7: DiNozzo Sr. (Robert Wagner) will be back.
“We will plan something with him later in the season,” Glasberg wraps up.
The 12th season of “NCIS” premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
