HBO has unveiled the teaser for the final season of “Boardwalk Empire.” It only lasts about 40 seconds, but the trailer, which was uploaded to YouTube on June 29, will have fans excited.
The trailer begins with a shot of Nucky Thompson looking out at the ocean from the boardwalk. It then shows another scene of him looking at the ocean during the night time. Nucky then looks out into the crowd at the Onyx, and then off into the distance at a meeting. A cover of “One” plays, while this is all unfolding.
The trailer doesn’t give too much of a look into the final season of “Boardwalk Empire.” But we do get glimpses of Al Capone, Nelson Van Alden, and a couple of stick-ups. The caption tells the viewer that this is the final season, and “all empires fall.” It is unknown when exactly “Boardwalk Empire” will return, but the trailer indicates that it will be sometime in September.
In the final scene, Nucky says, “Tricksters stay alive long enough to cash out.” The following caption explains that “no one goes quietly.”
What is known about the final season, so far, is that it will take place seven years after the end of season four. According to a report from Den of Geek, Michael K. Williams explained that the final season will take place during the Great Depression.
“The Depression has set in,” Williams said. “The days of the shiny shoes and fancy suits are long gone.”
Season four took place in 1924, so the final season will start in 1931. This is one year before the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt and two years before the repealing of the Prohibition law.
Williams also went into detail about what will happen to Chalky White. Last season didn’t go so well for him, as he lost his daughter, Maybelle.
“It ended very badly for Chalky last year,” Williams said. “His family life is no more, and he is desperately seeking Dr. Narcisse to settle old scores.”
A few days ago, Williams got fans excited when he posted a picture of himself in his “Boardwalk Empire” outfit on Instagram. The caption for the photo simply reads: “CHALKYS BACK!!!!!!”
During an interview on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Steve Buscemi called the end of the HBO series “bittersweet.”
“But I think it is probably time,” Buscemi added.
But Buscemi didn’t mention anything about what fans can expect. He’s not even sure what will happen to Nucky.
“I’m excited to see how they’re gonna wrap it up,” he said, “I mean they don’t really tell me anything [about what will happen].”
