Over the years candy have evolved, become more complex and yet it’s the simple preparations and nods to the past that really satisfy people. Growing up, Pop Rocks was a completely wild and outlandish candy.
The bright colors and stories of the crackling, popping candy causing kids to spontaneously combust during consumption were both horrifying and mystifying, making everyone want to try them.
They have fallen out of mainstream production over the past 20 years and while you can still find them here and there, Chuao Chocolatier has decided to give Pop Rocks a new jolt of life by incorporating them into one of their luscious, expertly crafted chocolate bars – the Firecracker bar.
This little party starter as Chuao calls it uses sea salt, a dash of chipotle and dark chocolate which makes for a smooth, luxurious taste experience but adding the Pop Rocks take it to another level. As each bite begins to melt in your mouth you begin to feel that familiar fizz in your mouth. That fizz builds into the trademark popping and crackling of Pop Rocks.
The Pop Rocks do not really add much in he way of flavor, which is a good thing since the chocolate is intended to be the star of the show. It does make for a fun, playful experience and one that definitely be experienced.
You can find the Firecracker bar and other great Chuao bars at Whole Foods, World Market, and Bed, Bath & Beyond.
