J.J. Abrams, the director of Star Wars Episode VII, and Zack Snyder, the director of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, have been giving each other some good-natured ribbing lately via social media as their films are in production. Most of the barbs involve mash-ups of the two franchises, but the latest video from the Star Wars set appear to take things to the next level, by actually incorporating a Batman icon into the Star Wars universe.
In a video titled “Hunka Junk” posted to this morning to the Bad Robot YouTube account, fans get what appears to be the first good look at the Millennium Falcon as it appears in Episode VII. As the familiar notes of Luke Skywalker’s theme (“Binary Sunset”) plays, a camera pans along the bottom of Han Solo’s iconic spaceship. As the camera nears the front section, the music shifts to Hans Zimmer’s theme from The Dark Knight, and we see a familiar vehicle has been attached to the underside of the ship’s hull: the Tumbler, better known as the Batmobile from Christopher Nolan’s trilogy featuring Christian Bale.
The Tumbler Batmobile is pretty well concealed within the patchwork of tubes and assorted parts that make up the Millennium Falcon’s hull, painted an off-white, yet scraped up and badly worn.
The video follows a series of tweets shared between the two productions featuring both Batman, Superman, and assorted Star Wars characters. The tweets can be viewed at the Bad Robot account, and at Zack Snyder’s account.
Star Wars: Episode VII opens December 18, 2015.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens March 25, 2016.
