The Borderlands series has continually gained in popularity since its initial release. Great characters, story, weapons, and settings have aligned the planets for this series. By no means is the series getting stale, but a lot of games can go that direction knowing they have the fan base. This author does not believe that anyone is a fan of “milking” a franchise. Luckily for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Gearbox Software and 2K Australia are changing so much with the game, it’ll be anything but “milked”.
The setting for the Pre-Sequel is Hyperion’s moon. Much like the real moon, there will be limited gravity. This opens up a slew of new gameplay options not yet seen in the series. The game will also go into why the moon looks crazy and why the space station is in the sky in Borderlands 2. More importantly, the limited gravity will completely change how the game will play. According to James Lopez, producer for Gearbox Software, this is what he had to say:
We also have new combat features like the slam, we have an o2 system, and we’ve made modifications to the gravity systems so it’s not just a way of movement, it’s a combat system now.
Using the limited gravity to slam down on opponents is a huge change to the game. There will also be jet packs to use throughout the game. Another big change to the game will be to cryogenically freeze your enemy. This means that the enemy can be shattered in one hit, and the slam will be an excellent way to clear out enemies. Also with the change to the gravity system, cover can now be exposed from enemies. The enemies will be able to jump above you and land behind you, so staying on your toes will be very important as you explore your surroundings.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on October 14th in North America, and October 17th internationally.
