As the ISIS terrorist threat and all its confusion begins to sort out, stunning revelations are occurring. Yes, it is confusing to know whether to call these barbarians ISIS or ISIL, but beneath the entire situation lurks much more intrigue.
How many Americans still remember (or want to) that President Obama claimed in 2012, “Al-Qaeda is on the path to defeat.” Obama can be given somewhat of a pass since he did say it in the heat of the presidential campaign. But was that statement more from his own perspective of leadership naivety or foreign policy ignorance? Whether it was one or the other, or both, he said it repeatedly.
The bold fact is, it was an outright lie and he should have known it as the President of the United States. It was far from the truth that Al-Qaeda, with Bin Laden dead or alive, was on some mythical path to defeat. The real facts are that many of Bin Laden’s top lieutenants were already relocating their operations in Syria and elsewhere in the Middle East. Surely Obama knew that, didn’t he? It’s more frightening to think he really didn’t for America’s security needs.
Call it ISIS or ISIL, but both spell Al-Qaeda. Is that fact completely over the head of President Obama with the daily CIA briefings he receives on national security, or is the omission purposeful to hide his previous remarks to score points in the 2012 election? Only recently is anyone in black garb and a hood on the run anywhere thanks to air strikes that have been inevitable, albeit quite late in the game, for months, if not years.
How much information is being withheld from the American people on a bungled foreign policy that has gotten the United States into this mess? Why isn’t the mainstream media spending more time asking why we took every soldier out of Iraq to begin with? The excuse that we could not stay without some form of consent with the government we saved is ridiculous. It is almost as ridiculous as Obama’s red line threat years later in Syria.
The shocking reality is Barack Obama’s total lack of any foreign policy experience, his allegiance to his left wing base at the cost of American lives and inability or refusal to listen to more informed and experienced advice. That is the reason this country is back at square one after President Bush ordered the invasion of Iraq in April, 2003. Obama just bungled the entire situation at an incredible cost in lives and treasure for his own political gains.
The real facts are, minus White House spin, that in April 2014, Al-Qaeda fighters in Syria split off into two groups, Al-Akhbar.com reported. Members of al-Qaeda have chosen one of two emirs. The so-called “Khorasan pledge” was the final nail in the coffin of the reconciliation between al-Nusra Front and the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
The terrorist threat has spread out from Syria to become the new global jihad. Something the president could have contained with air strikes last year had he followed through on his “red line” pledge. But it is becoming increasingly evident in this mess the U.S. faces now that his group of White House, advisers led by Valerie Jarrett, whispered it was bad for his base and his polling numbers. There is no other explanation to defy all learned military advice.
So instead, we have nine al-Qaeda emirs from Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, and Iran who have declared their allegiance to the new emir of the faithful, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the head of ISIS. After that concluded months ago, ISIS spokesperson Mohammed al-Adnani declared that “al-Qaeda deviated from the rightful course,” indicating that “it is not a dispute about who to kill or who to give your allegiance. It is a question of religious practices being distorted and an approach veering off the right path.”
No, Al-Qaeda is alive under another name and spreading like the measles. There are various factions with various names, but they are about one thing mainly and that is terror. This is a major turning point in the war on terror (even if the president refuses to call it that). When will the excuses stop? When will the meaningless speeches and the insane idea that air power alone will stop these crazies? When will America receive the sort of hands-on, powerful and direct leadership she deserves before this becomes an all-out World War III?
