(Part 2 in a Series)
Our stay at the fun Hotel Dylan, which has the slogan Peace, Love, Stay, is what led us to Woodstock’s newest spa, Savor. We simply asked general manager Karen Ridder for a suggestion, and she highly recommended the hoel’s “sister spa,” the new Savor Spa that had just opened inside Cheri Voss Salon, just a few minutes’ drive from the property.
What a fabulous discovery. Turns out we were familiar with founder Angela Jia Kim, who expanded Savor from its popular New York City West Village location. Also turns out we had the pleasure of being the first to experience a couple’s massage as the spa had just undergone its grand opening.
We parked around back and immediately noticed the bright orange outdoor chair, a harbinger of the fun and interesting décor inside. You reach the spa up the stairs from the salon. Speaking of fun – do take a moment to peek around Cheri Voss Salon where you’ll see a giant stuffed giraffe, lots of temptations on display from dazzling nail lacquers to hair accessories, candles and jewelry, a shopper’s dream for girlfriend gifts.
Up the steps, a chalkboard wall greeted our arrival with this a quote from Audrey Hepburn, “Happy girls are the prettiest girls.” Indeed.
The vibe is casual with some very nice touches. One wall displays the Spa’s anti-aging organic skincare line Om Aroma Co., chemical and preservative-free products made in small batches right here in the Hudson Valley. Yes, they are sold in the NYC store as well.
This new Hudson Valley location was recently featured in a NY Times Magazine blog. Angela talks in the accompanying video we’ve posted here about how this spa came about. She and her hubby were frequent visitors — he “obsessed with hiking the Catskills” every weekend — so this additional spa location came out of their love for the area.
In the video, she mentions that facials are extremely popular, the power peels and diamond micro-dermabrasion especially because of the organic skin care approach.
We were greeted with “customized” Savor coffee cups filled with water, our names inscribed in chalk. We filled out the spa intake form from tall, oblong chairs that cocooned us with comfy cushions (see the slideshow), and were ready to go.
The salon is small but comfortable. Loved the designer touches in the restroom and hallway.
The couple’s massage tables were set up in a large space (upper floor of an old barn home says the NYT blog) with breezy white curtains providing a partial surround. The space isn’t exactly intimate — stacks of chairs just beyond the curtains evidence that this is a multi-purpose room — and there’s a bit of noise from the highway just outside. But soon none of that mattered because Sean Connelly and Tiffany Fowler, our fabulous masseuses, quickly transported us to a realm of relaxation and stress release that was yes, heavenly and most needed. We were still knotted from the 10-hour drive from NC.
Both Sean and Tiffany were fantastic; Fletcher declaring Tiffany delivered one of the best massages he’d ever had. They worked well in sync in terms of timing, and each listened to our specific needs and instructions. For me, it’s always neck and shoulders especially by the shoulder blades due to so much time at the computer, and Fletcher opted for extra time spent on ankles and arms.
Massage choices are as follows; much more, including those ever-popular facials, are descrbed online:
- The Sophia, 60 min. for $105, muscle therapy for well being and relaxation;
- The Marilyn, 75 min. for $130, knot-mapping therapy targeting interconnected knots to relieve the source of pain;
- The Brigitte, 90 min. for $150, bespoke experience for relieving interconnected knots, de-stressing and true healing;
The latter was our chosen option, priced at $270 for a couple, and it truly delivered. We were accommodated quite well at Savor Spa and recommend you check it out when visiting the Woodstock area.
