According to Alexis Spight, signing with Greg Lyons’ Uncle G Productions was a “no brainer.” One of the hardest working men in the music industry, Greg Lyons had already paved the way for his label before it manifested. Monday, Aug. 4, “Uncle G”, as Greg is affectionately known as, and Alexis Spight shared their decision to officially join forces in an intimate interview and via press release.
Three to four hours of sleep a night, Alexis Spight and Greg Lyons burn their candles at both ends impacting the Gospel music industry with passion, hard work and faith in God. When you are flying from state to state going to venue to venue, the most important priorities take precedence. Ministering in song has been Alexis’ dream since she was a young girl. Who we see today with her fiery red mane, hip eclectic fashion and vocals that will run circles around the most seasoned singer, Alexis Spight is true to her purpose and remains focused on her mission.
What people don’t know is that Alexis and her assistant, Patricia S. Thompson, were making things happen before Greg Lyons was asked to be her manager. Jokingly, Uncle G was put on Alexis’ team. The camaraderie between the three solidified the decision to step out independently. Sunday Best’s platform and her former label, Music World Entertainment, under the Destiny Child famed music executive and business man Mathew Knowles, positioned Alexis for her elevation.
Greg Lyons has been a consistent force in the music industry since his Hip Hop/R&B days. The smooth laid back demeanor belies the tenacity and drive of the Uncle G that is known to be in a number of states in one day. Hard work is his mantra and those that he work with have the same characteristics. Greg Lyons is about action. Alexis referenced the scripture “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?” (James 2:20 KJV) Well, the understanding of the aforementioned scripture has sufficiently be applied resulting in success.
Since Greg Lyons made the announcement confirming the formation of his label, Uncle G Productions, via press release Monday, people have been throwing in their bid to make the team. Right now, Uncle G is forging ahead continuing his track record to cultivate artists to their fullest potential. With this new-found freedom and creative control, Alexis Spight have taken to her pen to write more songs that showcases her eclectic style. She’s moving away from the Alexis Spight we all knew of from Sunday Best, but not straying away from her bottom line to win souls to Christ. Tapping into her core, Alexis will invite you into her inner sanctuary revealing a more transparent mature woman. Exploring her creativity and artistry is what you will find on her forthcoming album. Alexis dropped a few names of producers she will work with on her new project, which includes Israel Houghton’s music director, Kevin Camp.
Balancing ministering, family and personal life, Alexis advises aspiring and up-and-coming artists to keep God first. “Keeping Him in the equation and keeping Him [God] first allows everything else to run smoothly. I’m a living witness to that. Remember to seize every opportunity given. If you can’t find one, create one. Lastly, be yourself.” If you have not purchased Alexis Spight’s music, download L.O.L. (Living Out Loud) on iTunes today. Now if you’re looking to submit your music to Uncle G Productions be forewarned that hard work is what the label is all about. Alexis admonishes, “As a warning to the future artists, don’t come in thinking it’s going to be all peaches and cream.” Uncle G explains that they are a close knit family and you will have “mesh with their spirits” as well. They work hard and play hard.
