You don’t have to be of Polish heritage to enjoy the festivities at the 31st annual Lagrange Street Polish Festival being held on Friday, July 11, Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13 in Toledo, Ohio. It is approximately a one hour, 50 minute drive from Cleveland.
Lagrange Street Polish Festival Taking place along the Lagrange Street area which is transformed into a true ethnic Polish village, this family-friendly event is Toledo’s largest street festival. Last year, the Festival attracted over 20,000 visitors. At the Festival, more than 30,000 pierogis, over a ton of kielbasa, hundreds of pounds of sweet & sour cabbage and 300 kegs of beer are consumed by visitors.
Featured entertainment attractions include a pierogi eating contest taking place at the Big Tent on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Contestants will be given 20 pierogis and 3 minutes to eat as many of them as they can. To be a participant, you must register at the Information Booth.
Another huge attraction will be the “Dancing With the Stars – Polka Edition” contest being held on Saturday at 6 p.m. You must register at the Information Booth to take part in the dancing contest.
Live entertainment will be provided by several of the Midwest’s best polka bands.
The Festival will have a Children’s Area where there will be performances by a magician, a balloon artist and The Circus Experience. Other activities for children include sand sculpting, face painting, arts & crafts and finger painting. There will also be amusement rides and arcade games.
Of course, there will be lots and lots of food for purchase including pierogis, kielbasa, pigs-in-the-blanket, sweet and sour cabbage, hot dogs, pizza, German potato pancakes, barbeque chicken, corn-on-the-cob, shish kabob, Philly steak sandwiches and gyros. And don’t miss the yummy Polish desserts like paczki, chrusciki and Polish coffee cakes.
There will be plenty of Polish beer (Pivo), American beer, soft drinks and bottled water for sale.
Hours for the Lagrange Street Polish Festival are 5 p.m. -11 p.m. on Friday, noon – 11 p.m. on Saturday and noon – 7 p.m. on Sunday. Admission on Friday and Saturday is $4 for adults and $2 on Sunday. Children 8 and under are free.
