Paleontologists have found a large number of polystrate fossils in the sedimentary rock layers of the earth. These polystrate fossils are fossils crossing two or more sedimentary layers (strata). But secular geologists and paleontologists do not like them and definitely do not want people to really know about them because they actually refute the theory of uniformitarianism. Charles Lyell wrongly used the polystrate trees of the classic Joggins site in Canada to promote uniformitarianism and great ages of geologic time. He claimed that they grew where they were found, but now we know that they extend through several strata layers, including thin coal layers, disproving that claim. The trees were transported by water to the location and deposited in rapid gathering of sediments.
Secular geologists seldom discuss polystrate fossils because fossils that transgress more than one so-called time horizon cannot represent a long sequence of events, as is commonly taught. Secular geologists do not want you to believe that rapid burial took place by a cataclysmic event over a short period of time. Secular geologists want people to believe that the trees originally grew there.
At Yellowstone National Park, there is a site that is very famous called Specimen Ridge. The fossil trees found there were not originally there, but actually came from a different location. Secular geologists use uniformitarianism to back up their science of long ages. They want you to believe that each layer was actually a different forest that grew there and was buried by volcanic ash. But actually the trees are all from the same time and buried rapidly at the same time all from one event which was the worldwide flood of Noah’s day (Genesis 6-9).
The Mount St. Helens eruption in 1980 actually gives pertinent evidence to refuting the practice of secular geologists who believe that the forests of trees that they find in an upright position were originally there. Because during the eruption of Mount St. Helens trees were knocked over and some were broken from their stumps and pushed to Spirit Lake by mudflows. Some of these trees are standing upright in the mud while others are horizontal and even others are upside down.
This looks exactly like how they are finding the fossilized trees. It shows rapid burial by sediments which pushed the trees to the location by lots of water and sediment. Evolutionary geologists cannot use polystrate fossils because it refutes their so-called science of uniformitarianism. Polystrate fossils point to the worldwide Genesis Flood in Noah’s day that happen about 4,500 years ago and produced the layers of rock from the rapid burial of sediments from the cataclysmic flood waters which trapped these organisms (plants, trees, animals) in the many layers of sediment which sorted them by wave loaded liquefaction.
