On June 2 Wetpaint Entertainment posted spoilers for the fifth season of the ABC Family drama “Pretty Little Liars,” and what is in store for the relationship of Aria Montgomery and Ezra Fitz. The season four finale left fans wondering what Ezra’s fate would be after being shot, with Aria and her friends witnessing it. The relationship will only get more complicated as the truth continues to surface.
Lucy Hale recently revealed in an interview that the first episode will pick up moments after the finale, and Aria will be by Ezra’s side. She believes that Aria and Ezra “will find a way to work things out” but Aria still hasn’t forgiven him for all the lies he has been telling her since they met. Fans will learn Ezra’ fate in the premiere episode, but he is still being targeted by A.
Aria and Ezra have been through a lot since the first season, between hiding their relationship and dealing with the fallout from A and other curveballs like Maggie and Ezra’s crime novel. Hale describes season five as the “season of forgiveness” for Aria, but Ezra still has an uphill battle to win over Aria and her friends. Ian Harding, who plays Ezra, explained that getting shot and having a more action packed story line is exciting for him and he looks forward to more. Harding also said that the couple may never be “completely happy,” because if everyone goes smoothly then the show is basically over so more hard times are ahead.
On June 2 The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Ezra will not be safe in Rosewood, especially now that Alison DiLaurentis is back from the dead. Marlene King recently mentioned that the person who shot Ezra will be revealed very early in season five, and possibly the first episode. The reveal will be a major twist and Ezra getting through to the girls about his true intentions will be a major story arc this season.
Both Hale and Harding are rooting for their characters, whose relationship has been a major part of the series since the first episode of season one. other cast members have mentioned that the pair belong together on screen, and as far as the executive producers are concerned, they seem to be the endgame. With Allison back and her history with Ezra, it will be interesting to see who both Aria and Ezra react to each other.
King calls the season the most “emotionally complex” season yet, and everything from the action to the drama will be nonstop for every character. The season five premiere will happen on June 10 at 8 p.m. on ABC Family and will air through the summer. King said that the show will be recycle old plot lines to keep the story alive and the series will end when the story is fully complete.
