On Thursday’s installment of “Project Runway” the designers were taken to the American Girl store, where they were given the challenge of creating a little girl’s outfit based on the American Doll they were randomly assigned and her story, and the girl carrying the doll would be their model.
And there were those who were dumbfounded by the challenge and feared not faring well, nevertheless, all tackled the challenge with fervor and hoped for the best, and as usual Korina talked about how excited she was, and of course proceeded to put other people’s work down, specially Sandhya…well actually everyone was trying to understand her approach to the challenge. And once Tim Gunn came around to check on everyone’s progress, he was at a loss for words when it came to Sandhya’s creation, however, admitted that despite his objections, the judges still liked her designs, so just advised her to keep on working and not mind his objection. Sandhya cried to Emily because of the meanness around her, and she would like to receive at least a little compassion…Kind of a strange request in such a cutthroat competition, where prisoners aren’t taken but just eliminated.
And then it was runway time, and first up was Korina, and give credit where credit is due and her design was very well done, fun, young, just perfect for a little girl who wants to show her sense of style; Sean was next and his outfit although supposed to be based in the 70’s still was not fun and lacked the color and outrageousness of that decade; Amanda followed and her design was pretty, fun, and appropriate; Alexander came next and there was some excitement to the design missing, and it just looked blah; Char was next and although her fringe was at first objected to, by Tim Gunn, she decided to go on with her idea and it came out fun and playful; Sandhya followed and her outfit did look like a costume, however, with the snaps in the back it looked like a baby’s onesie; Kini was next and his design was gorgeous, fun, playful, and yet elegant, just an outstanding creation that received praise from everyone, and ultimately got him the win; Emily followed and her design was too dark for a little girl, with a type of sweater on top and a skirt shorter in the front than on the back, and to think she has a girl’s line of clothing back home…Interesting…
The eight designers then stood before the judges and Amanda and Alexander were asked to step forward and they were told that their scores qualified them to move into next week’s challenge then it was time for good news for some and bad news for others. Korina was praised for a beautiful design, and Char was also given kudos for a great creation. The bottom three were Sean, Emily, and Sandhya and ultimately the latter was sent home for a design that just didn’t look comfortable for a little girl to wear and the overall aesthetic just wasn’t there.
