Last night on “Project Runway” the top four designers got the chance of presenting their collections at the renowned New York Fashion Week. And first order of business was for Tim Gunn to speak with each designer revisit what the judges told them last week, then he had a surprise for them and that was a visit to Mood and $300 each, Amanda however, chose not to go she already had what she needed to add sophistication to her collection as the judges pointed; her collection was missing.
Then there was a walk through by Tim Gunn to see their progress, and Amanda was told to stop over-thinking and not scrap some of her designs, Kini had also revised a coat that appeared to stiff and serious, and seemed to be moving more towards the young and fun, Sean had to revise all his fringe and heed some of the judges advice, but at the same time had to adhere to his aesthetic and what he believes, and then Char just confused Tim, as he pointed out, by showing him a fabric that immediately conjured images from the 70’s.
And then it was show time and the designers scrambled to put the final touches in their collections, and Char had models change outfits with only 20 minutes left before runway, Kini seemed ready, Amanda frantic trying to get the work done and yet realizing the grandeur of the spectacle, and Sean cool as a cucumber, or so it seemed.
First up was Amanda, beautiful, cohesive, and sophisticated without being overwhelming, without question worthy of winning the grand prize. Char followed and her collection did not bring up the word cohesion, there were flower patterns, stripe patterns, solids, different colors, and even a shirt with the word “FLY” on the front…Kini was next and his collection screamed beauty, sophistication, and elegance with a touch of playfulness here and there. And then it was Sean who embraced the elegant fringe and turned out a collection that not only told a story, but also highlighted the elegance, beauty, and creativity of the designer.
The judges spoke to each designer, and first was Char who was told that she needed to elevate her sophistication and that the dresses just did not appear as though for the same type of client, in other words, cohesion was missing. Amanda was praised for the outstanding collection and jewelry, that Amanda designs as well, the effortlessness that her clothes inspire is fascinating. Sean was called sophisticated and elegant, however, informed that he could do better. Kini was received with mix feelings, some outfits praised others not so much, and overall he did a fantastic job redoing his designs in two days.
And then it was announcement time and Char was the first to be eliminated, then Kini, and so Amanda and Sean stood next to each other awaiting the news and the winner of “Project Runway” season 13 is: Sean, and the best of wishes to him for a bright future, Amanda was so close and yet so far, but surely this won’t be the last that the fashion world heard of this great designer.
