Forecast discussion: Despite high pressure off the east coast of Maine, a low pressure system off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina has made our skies overcast. The moisture is coming north, as we have been seeing increasing cloud cover since the late morning. We will maintain mostly cloudy skies for the rest of the evening, although some areas of drizzle are possible before sunrise.
As we head into the morning commute, we may see an isolated shower. The precipitation shield will begin making its way into Southern New England during the morning. The computer models are showing some significant rainfall is possible during the afternoon and evening. We will slowly taper to showers Thursday night, as the low begins to move into the Atlantic. We may see a passing shower into Friday morning, but we will begin to see a little sunshine by Friday afternoon.
As we head into the weekend, an upper level ridge will begin to move into the eastern U.S. This ridge will allow warmer air to move up into New England. We will see above average temperatures on Saturday, as highs try to reach near 80 degrees. The ridge will remain over us into Sunday night. By then, the ridge will begin to break down, as an upper-level trough from Canada works south. Also, a weak cold front will bring increasing clouds by Monday afternoon. We will see the chance of isolated showers on Tuesday, before a new high pressure ridge brings back dry weather on Wednesday. However, summer will make a hasty exit, as temperatures may not reach 70 degrees by Tuesday.
