Forecast discussion: After a beautiful Tuesday, we began Wednesday with some sunshine. However, a cold front to our west helped bring increasing clouds by the late morning. We have had limited sunshine over Providence through the afternoon. We are waiting for some showers to push through New England. However, the showers have stalled over New York and eastern Pennsylvania. So, we will see the activity come through during the overnight, with an isolated shower possible by the start of the morning commute.
By the time we arrive for work and school, the cold front will be offshore, and a weak area of low pressure will keep some cloud cover over us during the morning. But, high pressure behind the disturbance will give us mostly sunny skies by the afternoon. The sunshine will not help keep the mild temperatures we have experienced, thanks to cooler air coming down from Canada.
As we enter Halloween, we will see some increasing clouds throughout the day. This is due to a weak low pressure center moving into the Mid-Atlantic. However, the trick-or-treaters should get through picking up their candy without any problems. Temperatures, however, will be dropping into the middle to upper 40’s Friday evening. This low pressure system will bring us strong winds and possible snow showers entering the weekend.
As we wake up on Saturday, scattered showers will be coming down, and winds will be increasing. This is due to the low pressure system intensifying off the coastline, along with a high pressure center trying to move east. This will tighten the pressure gradient, and the tighter the pressure gradient, the stronger the winds. As we head into Saturday night, some precipitation north and west of Providence may change or mix into snow showers. However, the ground will be too warm for any accumulations. We will continue to see strong winds into Sunday, although we will have dry conditions. Also, just a reminder to readers, but we will be “falling back” with our clocks early Sunday morning, setting them back 1 hour.
As we head into early next week, the colder air will begin to retreat, as our temperatures will rebound back to seasonable conditions. A cold front will bring mostly cloudy skies and afternoon showers for next Wednesday.
