Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort has made a number of improvements and additions for the 2014-2015 ski season, including more snowmaking, a renovation for Purgatory Rentals, a new park for younger skiers and riders, and choices in food and beverage.
Purgatory is adding more snowmaking equipment to the front and backside of the mountain. The resort is adding 11 new energy-efficient snowmaking tower guns, and a state-of-the-art, high-output fan gun, making the mountain operations team more efficient during the early season to establish a solid base that lasts throughout the entire ski season.
Purgatory Rentals is getting a facelift to streamline the rental experience from start to finish, complete with new boot fitting stations, snowboard demos and an upgraded rental fleet. The redesigned shop offers a more efficient experience with less time spent in the shop and more time to get out on the slopes. Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort is an official Rossignol Experience Center and Burton Learn to Ride Center, combining the latest in ski and snowboard technology with state-of-the-art teaching methodologies.
The new Burton Riglet Park will anchor the development of a multi-faceted ski and ride terrain-based learning facility in the base area. The Burton Riglet Park allows the youngest of riders, ages 3-6 years, to experience sliding on snow and get a jump start on learning while having fun on the slopes.
Durango Mountain Resort continues to expand the diversity, selection, convenience and ambience of the resort’s food and beverage venues. New this year, you can pick up breakfast, including freshly-made pancakes and made-to-order eggs, in Purgy’s Slopeside Restaurant before hitting the slopes. A new food truck will be located in the Columbine Beginner Area, offering a baked potato bar, warm snacks, sweet treats, and kid-friendly food and beverage options for guests enjoying the slopes in that area of the resort.
The resort was named the Best Ski Value in North America by TripAdvisor for the past two seasons, and boasts 88 trails, ten chairlifts, five terrain parks and 1,360 skiable acres. Other winter activities include dog sledding, tubing, Cross Country Skiing, snowshoeing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, ice climbing, snowbiking, backcountry skiing, snowmobiling and more.
Durango Mountain Resort is also the base camp for Colorado’s largest snowcat skiing operation, San Juan Untracked, which has access to 35,000 acres of terrain.
