There is a radio station owned and operated by a compassionate Ex-Navy man who served on the USS Samson DDG10 as shown in the photo. The ex-navy man’s real name is Earl Hayes but his D.J. name is Lee Bird.
I asked him how he got that nickname and he tells me he was Dubbed Lee Bird by the bass player (Dwayne Taylor) from one of his bands in his past. He tells me that one of his favorite songs was always Free Bird and he used to ask the band to perform it. One day his bass player said to him, “Okay Lee Bird we will play your Free Bird,” and it stuck.
Lee Bird and Honor America features many Nashville singer/songwriters/artist and their music. Check out this month’s featured artist at Honor America.
His radio station is so different from any other radio stations I have ever known as he has a very specific mission statement that everyone should read. His mission statement is as follows:
Our mission is to create visibility for the problems that affect our Veterans and help to create solutions for those problems.
To help get back to basics in places like the VFW’s, American Legions, AM Vets and other organization to create working communities that administer help to struggling Veterans in their respective areas regarding the following:
- Educate Veterans and their families about new resources available to them.
- Assist in referring counseling services to families who have lost or are losing loved ones.
- Advice or referrals for Veterans with PSTD, Survivors guilt or diseases caused by chemicals they were subjected to during war.
Suicide is the number one killer of our Veterans of the Armed Forces today. Honor America needs all the help they can get dealing with Veterans issues like PTSD, depression and survivors guilt. There has to be a way to change that and Honor America is striving to Be the Change. Like him on Facebook.
