Reality star Teresa Giudice is speaking out about her prison sentence, and she reveals that she didn’t fully understand what she was getting into with a plea deal that landed her 15-months of jail time. “The Real Housewives of New Jersey Star” sat down with Bravo’s Andy Cohen on Monday night’s “Watch What Happens Live” to talk about the shocking verdict that resulted in her 15-month prison sentence and a 41-month prison sentence for her husband, Joe.
According to People on Monday, Giudice revealed that the sentence was a wake-up call, and said that she was “never trying to keep up with the Joneses.” When Cohen asked the “Real Housewives” star what role she played in the loan and bankruptcy fraud allegations, she answered, “Whatever Joe told me to sign, I signed.”
The mom of four admitted that she needed to get better at “reading things” and said her trustworthy nature was her downfall. “I do need to read things [and] understand things before I sign them,” she said.”I’m a trustworthy person and sometimes I take what other people say … I can’t do that anymore.”
Joe Giudice admitted to Cohen that he was “taking out false loans” and that he used his wife because “she had better credit.” And Teresa revealed that she worked on the Bravo reality show for the paycheck. “I work on the ‘Housewives,’” she said. “I get paid if I wanna go buy something … I’m not trying to keep up with the Joneses. I’m not trying to spend money that I don’t have.”
Because Teresa will serve her prison sentence first, her husband plans to be “the housewife” while she’s away and he vowed to bring their daughters to visit their mother in prison every week. At this point, only the couple’s oldest child, 13-year old Gia, knows about the prison sentences, while younger daughters Milania, Gabrielle and Audriana have not been told about it yet. “I just want to make sure my daughters are okay,” Teresa Giudice said. “I just want to talk to my daughters every day.”
The reality star also told Cohen that she took the plea deal because she thought it would mean she could escape prison time. “I didn’t fully understand it,” she said. “I thought my lawyer was going to fight for me.”
RadarOnline.com previously reported that Joe Giuidce pleaded guilty to the charges against him, believing that if he took all of the blame, his wife be able to walk away without having to serve prison time. The couple told Cohen they were stunned when Teresa was given jail time too.
