It’s been a whirlwind week for “The Real Housewives” of everywhere, with many of them likely feeling thankful they don’t have the problems that some do behind the gates of luxury and reality TV fame. In the South, “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Phaedra Parks has been in the news after the recent sentencing update of her husband Apollo Nida, a sentencing hearing that Phaedra Parks was noticeably absent from. Fashion & Style is reporting July 25 that due to the multiple legal woes currently facing this “Real Housewives of Atlanta” couple, Phaedra Parks will be taking a leave of absence on the next season, citing a possible divorce for the couple as one of the possible reasons. The Venture Capital Post is confirming today that the truth about the marriage between Phaedra Parks and Apollo Nida is that it is stronger than ever. A mysterious tweet has emerged however suggesting otherwise. News about the “Real Housewives” north of the Georgia peaches also shows Aviva Drescher doing some serious backpedaling over her unfortunate….leg throwing incident with Bloomberg TV July 24.
Fashion & Style is reporting today that Phaedra Parks has requested a leave of absence from the next season of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” With the myriad of legal problems just dumped in her lap after her husband Apollo Nida was recently sentenced to 8 years for a significant money laundering scheme, it leaves little to the imagination as to why she would request a leave of absence.
Phaedra Parks has two little boys she shares with Apollo Nida, and sources are speculating what only seems natural, she wants to spend more time with them during what will be a very difficult time. Production for the next season of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” has already begun and Fashion & Style is reporting that Phaedra’s absence hasn’t been seen yet.
However the fact that Phaedra Parks has “actively avoided filming besides Apollo during a recent event thrown by cast mate Cynthia Bailey” has not gone unnoticed. Phaedra’s husband Apollo Nida has already told the press that he’s a “little salty” over Phaedra’s noticeable absence from his sentencing hearing, and has also suggested this may be an indication his marriage is “whatever.”
The Venture Capital Post on the other hand is reporting today that, despite this, there are no signs of any cracks in the marriage between Apollo Nida and Phaedra Parks. It might be because this will not be the first prison term of Apollo’s that Phaedra has had to familiarize herself with.
Apollo’s rap sheet is much more extensive than some people might know, his 8 year prison term is not even the longest one he has been given. Judging by his record, theft seems to be what he knows best. In 1998 Nida was charged and convicted with theft and for receiving stolen property, a conviction he served five months for. By 2004 he was charged and convicted in a racketeering scheme that landed him an 18 year sentence. He became eligible for and received parole after serving 5 years.
Given his history, it is likely he will serve the full 8 years of his current sentence.
The Venture Capital Post is reporting today however that little if any of this will have an impact on the marriage between Phaedra Parks and Apollo Nida. Sources told the VCP that Phaedra has been taking measures to ensure the last few moments of time the family has together are cherished, and has even had a professional family photo shoot done with the boys and their father.
“She wants to capture that father-son dynamic so that her children will know that they have a father and that he’s very much a part of their lives. Right now she’s with him and that’s where things stand. That’s her husband and the father of her children and took her vows very seriously.”
The source also told the VCP that although Phaedra won’t be on screen as much this year, when “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” begins to air come November, fans will get to see some of the realities of this sentence play out between Phaedra Parks and Apollo Nida.
It sounds that Phaedra may be standing by her man after all, and it certainly won’t be the first time. But is this the truth about Phaedra Parks? A mysterious tweet suggests otherwise.
The mysterious tweet in question emerged this week suggesting there might be a different truth sparking the absence of the lovely Phaedra Parks on the next season of RHOA. Michelle Brown of Straight from the A tweeted yesterday, “Phaedra Parks takes ‘leave of absence’ after @ApolloNida03 comes clean about @KenyaMoore.”
Is Kenya Moore the real reason this real housewife is hitting the backburner on the next season? Or even from her marriage?
The reality facing this “Real Housewife” is that…she’s clearly got a lot on her plate, and her attendance in future filming will reflect that.
Meanwhile, just north of the Georgia peaches, the “Real Housewives” taking a bite out of the Big Apple are still reeling from the most recent airing of “The Real Housewives of New York City” finale. Most of them are probably just feeling relief over the fact that it’s not them that has to do the explaining at this stage of the game.
Following the most recent season finale of “The Real Housewives of New York City”, fans were agape when Aviva Drescher handled the “mean girls” that were coming at her in a way that was counterintuitive to the etiquette lessons her fellow co-star Countess Luann Delesseps provides in her book “Class with the Countess: How to Live with Elegance and Flair.”
Will the Countess be adding an amendment to chapter two of her book after this finale and changing the section “12 things elegant people are never seen doing” to…13 things? One can’t help but wonder if a thirteenth will appear in a future edition that sounds like, “Elegant people never throw their prosthetic at people no matter how mad they are at them.”
And this is precisely what happened on the most recent season finale of “The Real Housewives of New York City”, the clip shown here speaks for itself. As a result, Aviva has some explaining to do. In the world of public professions, there are a few ways one can handle this, and Aviva has taken advantage of some.
Aviva Drescher has appeared on Bloomberg TV yesterday to discuss the situation as elegantly as possible in addition to making some comments with Access Hollywood. And then to top Aviva’s backpedalling sundae off with a Manhattan sized cherry, she went about her public image repair in the standard way that the “Real Housewives” deal with their problems….on their Bravo blog.
Yesterday however Aviva Drescher left the rants at home when she spoke with Carol Massar on “Taking Stock” on Bloomberg TV. Aviva told Carol that she signed up for “The Real Housewives of New York City” because she wanted to raise awareness and give hope to amputees that needed hope and guidance. She even told Carol Massar that at first she didn’t even want to do the show. Her first response was,
“Absolutely not, I’m not joining those crazy women.”
Now, not only is she one of those “crazy women”, many think her to be the craziest one of all. In fact, being called crazy by a cast mate is one of the things that reportedly stirred Aviva to the point of hurling her prosthetic across a crowded room. In her interview with Carol Massar, Aviva even hinted at the fact that some of what happened that day, and on the show, isn’t real.
“All of television is…produced.” She said, emphasizing the word “produced” several times. She says,
“All of television is produced. There’s always an element that it….is produced. We are…creating a show.”
Is Aviva trying to say that the leg throwing incident was kind of a schtick for TV? It’s not what she claimed to Access Hollywood when she specifically said that happened because,
“I got really annoyed. Just don’t piss off the Aviva. I was being attacked by three shrews at a cocktail party. Some people thrown down their glasses, and I just threw down my leg!”
The “shrews” in question were oddly not mentioned during her elegant sit down with Carol Massar on Bloomberg yesterday. It was the asthma incident, and her cast mates not believing her asthma reports that threw Aviva over the edge according to Access Hollywood.
“They were coming after me about the truth of my asthma. They were saying I was faking it. I would never lie. I would never fake something like that. After a while, I got sick of it and I had to make a point.”
And did she ever, and it has not stopped since. The whole world has been trying to make a point about elegance and class to Aviva Drescher ever since, or, at least the whole world that cares about what “The Real Housewives” of anywhere are doing.
But, Aviva being Aviva had the last word when she did what all good “Real Housewives” do when a public situation has occurred. Some take to the bed, some take to the blog. For Aviva, her latest Bravo blog entry on the topic reads,
“This is going to be the shortest blog entry ever. In fact, you can stop reading now and just look at the episode.
There’s a legal concept (when I’m not a crazy bitch, I’m a lawyer), res ipsa loquitur, which goes all the way back to the ancient Roman philosopher/lawyer Cicero (I’m not just crazy, I’m also snooty). It means “the thing speaks for itself.” This thing does. So don’t listen to me, watch the episode. See crazy/snooty/sarcastic Aviva react to being attacked by the mean girls by banging her fake leg on the table, and see the mean girls react in revulsion at the evidence of my missing limb — led by Kristen’s horrified “I’m going to vomit.”
It’s been a tough Season for me — I’ve taken a lot of sh– from the Housewives on the air, in social media, and in social situations. My character has been impugned. I’m not complaining. It seems to be part of the Real Housewives culture, and even when it’s been a headache, I’m still grateful to be a part of it. I’ve taken a lot of sh– from viewers, too. Again, that’s OK — it comes with the territory. I expect there will be a lot more after this episode. Carole calling me “weird,” or worse Heather calling me “crazy,” or worse Kristen doing that mock horror gaping mouth thing, and many of you supporting your favorites by damning me.
It’s the end of the Season — the gloves are off (legs too) and it’s all on the table (pun intended). So watch the episode. If you can stand it (pun not intended), watch it again. I’ve nothing more to say.”
It may not be the shortest blog post ever, but it is the last word from Aviva. Last week she was opening up her bag of crazy and hurling it at cast mate Kristen Taekman to prove she had asthma. She had a doctor’s note and everything. This week…the thing speaks for itself.
What do you think the truth is about the marriage between Phaedra Parks and Apollo Nida? Do you think Aviva Drescher will ever recover from this public relations disaster? Will she be back? From a ratings perspective, she certainly brings it.
