The Eastern Shore is about to get more glamorous.
Plans to enhance the historic Inn at Perry Cabin have been announced by the newlly created management, Belmond Hotels. Included is expansion of the inn’s Linden Spa to become a year-round destination.
Located on the shore of Chesapeake Bay, in the heart of colorful St. Michael’s, the inn has provided hospitality and lodging to Maryland travelers for many decades. Since being acquired by the Orient-Express company, it has become a hideaway for lovers of seafaring tradition as well as good living.
But progress intervened. Despite a happy relationship with SNCF, the French transportation company that owns the Orient-Express trademark, the hotel operations needed to rebrand. “We are excited to launch the Belmond brand, which will heighten awareness of our exceptional collection of hotels and luxury travel experiences,” said John M. Scott, former president & chief executive officer, Orient-Express Hotels Ltd.”
Behind the decision, however, is historic news of a new train to be named the Orient-Express. Operating on high-speed lines by French railroads, this new-generation train will be a game changer. While the French agreed to continue its long-term license agreement for the original Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train, they also terminated the hotel license.
Belmond is investing $5-million to launch the new name. Plus an additional $10-million over subsequent years. “Extending our global brand presence by having a name that will be associated as much with our hotels and river cruises as with our celebrated train experiences is a key step,” said Mr. Scott.”
And so the once-modest Maryland inn becomes associated with the likes of The Cipriani Hotel in Venice, the Copacabana Palace in Rio, and the Hotel du Palais in Biarritz. Meanwhile, train excursions on the beautifully renovated equipment continue.
Belmond is a global brand of exceptional hotel and luxury travel adventures in some of the world’s most inspiring and enriching destinations.
