Punters may now wager on Red Cadeaux who has been declared for the Princess of Wales’ Stakes at Newmarket on Thursday. Betting tipsters consider the Ed Dunlop-trained six-year-old as a viable contender among a field of nine in this week’s anticipated horse race.
Red Cadeaux placed in both the Melbourne Cup and Hong Kong Vase in 2011, and won the Yorkshire Cup this year. Red Cadeaux also placed in the Coronation Cup and the Hardwicke Stakes. The other runners include Jakkalberry (fifth at Royal Ascot and trained by Marco Botti), Fiorente (sixth) and Quest For Peace (10th). Botti’s Joshua Tree will also join the line-up.
The rest of the Group 2 horse racing contenders include Dandino, Harris Tweed, Modun and Sea Of Heartbreak.
On Tuesday, Frankie Dettori was involved in another activity not involving the racetrack. The Italian jockey carried the Olympic torch at Ascot racecourse. Dettori took part on the 53rd day of the torch’s journey on its way to the 2012 London Olympics. A crowd of about 10,000 saw Dettori complete a circuit of the parade ring having mounted former Cheltenham Festival winner Monsignor.
Dettori said afterwards, “It is an honour and a privilege to be invited to carry the Olympic flame, especially at a track that holds such happy memories for me. I’ve been round this paddock thousands of times, I’ve seen the Queen here at Royal Ascot, but I’ve never seen a reception like it.”
