The synopsis of “Road to Paloma” is right here. “Wolf, a Native American on the run after avenging his mother’s murder. As he flees across the desolate American West on his motorcycle, he’ll discover that justice has a cost – Wolf’s search for redemption will reveal secrets and take him on a journey where the roads have some very unexpected turns.”
It opened with Wolf working in the evening sun building a fence. He walks with his digging tool on the railroad tracks. He goes to a mechanic shop to work on a carburetor for his motorcycle. The mechanic tells him that two FBI agents were there asking for him. He rides off on his motorcycle leaving the old mechanic eating some food. The highway is empty as he travels through the cold desert morning.
Two federal agents talk about Robert Wolf who is from the Mojave Indian reservation. He killed a man named Charles with a rock who was off the reservation. They decide to go after Wolf who visits his father at his home. They speak about Wolf’s mother who died & Wolf hasn’t talked to his sister in a long time. His dad tells him that it was wrong to kill. Wolf wants to spread his mother’s ashes, but his sister carries them.
Wolf flees on the lonely dirt road away from the federal agent. It is a harsh & cold journey that he is forced to take because he believes there is no justice for his mother. One step behind, the agent goes to study the crime scene. Wolf’s motorcycle breaks down as he walks near a bar that has a heavy metal band performing.
Wolf helps a band member find his own motorcycle & they jump on the highway. They go south through the beautiful western scenery. Wolf is a good, kind person who is loved by his distant relatives & enjoys the reservation land he knew as a child. It is unbelievable that he killed another man. He has no money, but knows each desert community so well.
This road trip has Wolf stumbling through small communities as the law follows behind very slowly. – Will the federal agents catch up to him? Is there any kind of justice for Indians in the American southwest? What lies ahead for Wolf who really doesn’t know where he’s going? You can watch “Road to Paloma” over at “iTunes.”
