Did you know? In conjunction with National Farmers’ Market Week 2014 (Aug. 3-9, 2014), Chipotle Mexican Grill is teaming up with several Baltimore-area farmers’ markets to support the efforts of local farms.
Chipotle will be on-site at three Baltimore-area markets in support of Farmers’ Market Week offering $5 currency tokens (which will be redeemable for food at the market) to the first 200-500 guests to visit Chipotle’s tent at the following locations:
- Wednesday, 8/6: Govanstowne Farmers Market (5140 York Road; 3pm – 7pm). Will distribute $5 vouchers to the first 200 people that visit the booth.
- Thursday, 8/7: Towson Farmers Market (Allegheny Avenue, Towson, MD; 1:45am – 3pm). Will distribute $5 vouchers to the first 500 people that visit the booth.
- Sunday, 8/11: Baltimore Farmers Market and Bazaar (under the Jones Falls Expressway at Holliday & Saratoga streets; 7am – 12pm). Will distribute $5 vouchers to the first 500 people that visit the booth.
Check out another interesting healthy event that takes place every year Maryland. Yep, “The Buy Local Challenge” which was created by the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission and went on to become a statewide program.
According to press specs, “The Buy Local Challenge” encourages all Marylanders to eat at least one locally grown or raised product each day of the Buy Local Challenge Week, which is always the last full week of July. Well, the challenge is over and I decided to share with you guys my top two favorite recipes from that week which took place July 19-27, 2014. Maybe they will help you decide on some popular items for your Farmers’ Market purchases.
- My first pick was the ‘Peach Habañero Sticky Ribs’ which was submitted by Chef Aaron Bessick of Union Hospital of Cecil County, with producers Shane Hughes of Liberty Delight Farms in Baltimore County for pork ribs; Vic Priapi of Priapi Gardens in Cecil County for habañero peppers; and llene Milburn of Milburn Orchards in Cecil County for peaches. Pork ribs and fresh peaches are a perfect blend.
- My second pick was the ‘Roasted New Potatoes with Arugula Basil Pesto’, submitted by Chef Randall Smith of Adventist Healthcare in Washington, D.C. with producers Michael Protas of One Acre Farm in Montgomery County for new potatoes, arugula, basil and garlic. I love potatoes, even most of American does too statistics proven. Besides, potatoes chips are the most purchased snack and fresh potatoes seem to full the same taste buds in my opinion. Fresh potatoes rock!
