Gladiators at large are counting down the days until Shonda Rhimes’ brings “Scandal” back for the season four premiere in the exciting TGIT (Thank God It’s Thursday) lineup on Sept. 25. “Scandal” is sandwiched nicely between “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How to Get Away with Murder” in a new timeslot at 9 pm ET/8 pm CT. Emmy nominated lead actress Kerry Washington is making the talk show rounds for “Scandal” premiere week and on Sept. 22 she stopped by “Good Morning America” to chat with co-host Lara Spencer about the new Olivia Pope inspired fashion line at The Limited.
Washington joined “Scandal” costume designer Lyn Paolo and The Limited’s Senior VP of Design Elliot Staples to talk about the exciting new Liv looks that women can pick up for less. Spencer asked Staples how it’s been putting together this line that is based on Rhimes’ and Washington’s iconic fictional political fixer.
Staples said, “It was so easy. Kerry and Lyn’s work on the character has made her so consistent and so aspirational. It was so very easy to come up with iconic looks for her. And then working with the two of them, it came together in a snap.” Kerry Washington added two more important adjectives behind Staples’ “aspirational.” She said, “Aspirational, accessible and affordable.” Those descriptors sum up three ‘A’ plus things about a line that is sure to please women who like to dress for success and have a keen fashion sense.
Olivia Pope is arguably one of the sleekest, most stylish ladies on fictional Capitol Hill. Her look is pure “powerful chic.” She blends business with beauty in an elegant way that commands great attention. She certainly snagged the heart of the most powerful man in the world, in her fated love affair with married POTUS Fitzgerald “Fitz” Grant (Tony Goldwyn).
In the gripping “Scandal” season three finale, she jetted off into the sunset with her on-again, off-again “fake” boyfriend Captain Jake Ballard (Scott Foley), former command of the deadly black ops organization, B613. Olivia shockingly left her power suits behind to don a sexy bathing suit somewhere in the surf and sand with Jake. Fans are chomping at the bit to find out just where Olivia went and when she’ll return.
Meanwhile, Fitz and Mellie (Bellamy Young) are reeling from their son’s death and OPA is turned on its head with Harrison’s murder and Olivia’s unexpected departure. Plus, Mama and Papa Pope (otherwise known as manipulators extraordinaire) are still on the loose which means virtually no one is safe; least of all Olivia. Gladiators know Olivia can’t keep herself at bay and away from the danger and intrigue for too long. If nothing else, she’ll feel the familiar Fitz pang and miss those snappy suits in her closet.
The 42-piece initial Fall “Scandal” line at The Limited is interchangeable and priced from $49 to $298. One of the pieces featured on GMA was one of Kerry Washington’s personal favorites, a cape, which comes stylistically close to the one Olivia wore on “Scandal.” The charismatic star and recent new mom addressed the line’s versatility saying, “The great thing about the collection, is there’s 42 pieces but they all work with each other. We wanted to make sure that if you buy a bunch of pieces you can put them in your closet and come up with hundreds of looks based on each item.”
Perhaps the best way for fans to get a good “Scandal” fix in between all-new episodes is to beckon their own inner “fixer” call and get out to The Limited to try some of the exquisite “Scandal” inspired pieces. Per the retailer’s website, the pieces were “created to inspire possibilities for ladies who lead.”
The collection becomes available at The Limited beginning Sept. 23 and features a wide array of pants, jackets, dresses and more. Kerry Washington is known for her exquisite looks as Olivia Pope and beyond at all kinds of red carpet and charity events. A holiday line will be released later, boasting about another 40 pieces to make a total initial offering of more than 70 “Scandal” inspired pieces.
