Although “Black Widow” sounds like something to be avoided, when it’s a Marvel character played by actress Scarlett Johansson, it’s smoking hot. Scarlett recently faced the challenge of sculpting her body for her role in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” reported UPI on Tuesday.
The character of Natasha Romanoff, also known as the Black Widow, rides a sleek motorcycle in the film. That means she needs to slip sleekly into that form-fitting black leather attire.
But the demands of that show-every-curve costume isn’t new to Scarlett, reported the Inquisitr on Wednesday. She appeared previously in “Iron Man 2,” and braved the black leather in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
And to be a super-spy, you need a super body. Scarlett worked out with celebrity personal trainer Bobby Strom for “The Avengers.” The workout involved “the same program we’d used for Iron Man 2,” Strom noted. “It had a proven history.”
Strom guided Scarlett through CrossFit-style workouts. They’re high intensity, interweaving moves from lifts to jumping, Strom told WebMD. The goal: Build muscle and define her body.
But Scarlett downplays her efforts. “It’s no secret – no secret thing. All boring!” she informed “Access Hollywood.”
In addition to her “boring” 5 a.m. workouts, Scarlett described her diet as (you guessed it) “boring.” She follows a Paleo-style low-carb diet that’s high in protein and eliminates starchy foods such as bread and pasta.
“Salad and chicken and, you know, nothing else, pretty much,” Scarlett summed up. “It’s that old tried and true ‘work out like a dude and eat like a rabbit’ (diet).”
And she’s definitely not alone in chomping on chicken for her role. Scarlett noted that co-star Chris Evans also had to do shape-shifting by losing weight, then bulking up.
“The last time I saw him was for some reshoots that we did, or additional shooting that we did for this film, and he was much smaller. I don’t know how he bulks up like that!” she said.
His secret: “I can’t imagine that he ever is not eating chicken. Like, how much chicken do you eat a day?” Scarlett demanded.
“Be honest, do you just wake up with meat kabobs?! I don’t know how he does it,” she admitted.
Scarlett isn’t the only celebrity to turn to the Paleo diet for help with sculpting her curves. Eva La Rue credits her curves to the caveman carb-cutting crusade.
“I am a firm believer in The Paleo Solution,” Eva wrote in a testimonial for Robb Wolf’s Paleo site. “Since adopting a Paleo way of eating I look and feel better, and I know that I am setting a good example for my daughter.”
Robb is the author of “The Paleo Solution: The Original Human Diet.” He emphasizes the importance of avoiding processed foods, grains and sugar while boosting the intake of foods such as grass-fed beef and non-starchy vegetables.
For those who want to eat more than chicken and salad, Robb also highlights the fact that the Paleo diet is highly flexible.
