The 2014 Promiseland Music Festival will be held July 11 and 12 at the War Memorial Park in Ottumwa. The Christian festival will feature headlining performances from Scott Stapp (formerly of Creed) and Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, as well as performances from more than twenty other musical acts. The two-stage event is free and open to all ages, and besides live music, there will also be inspirational speakers and youth activities like inflatables, pony rides, tram rides, face-painting, clowns, and the Firehouse Kidz children’s ministry. There will be food vendors and local businesses on hand selling things and giving away prizes throughout the festival. The third annual Promiseland Music Festival will run from 4:45 p.m. to (around) midnight on Friday, July 11 and from 11:45 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 12.
Friday’s headliner, Scott Stapp, was the lead singer for the Grammy-winning 90’s rock band Creed. Creed sold more than 50 million albums and tallied eleven #1 singles. The fame, as documented in his 2012 autobiography Sinner’s Creed, led to alcohol and prescription drug addiction. After a car accident in 2002 and a 40-foot fall from a hotel balcony in 2006, Stapp’s life had hit rock bottom. It was then that Stapp started over in his faith. He completed rehab for his addictions, and as he states on his website, he “turned that mess into a message”. Stapp released his second solo album, Proof of Life, in 2013.
Florida rockers The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus will headline Saturday’s entertainment schedule. The band’s first three albums have gone Top 10 on the Rock chart, and they have collected three #1 Christian Rock singles. TRJA will release their fourth, simply entitled 4, on July 4.
