As followers of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we have but one main priority in life. We should place our Lord at the center of all things, and love Him with all our hearts, minds, and strength. Jesus is our Lord, our God, and our Guide, today, tomorrow, and always. This is something we must emphasize every day of our lives here on earth.
In Matthew 6:19-21, our Lord continues in His sermon saying: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal, but lay up for yourself treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Do not place too much value on material things. Physical possessions can tarnish and dissipate with time. Try to evaluate things you hold near and dear to your heart. Is our Lord one of these things? If not, you should consider prioritizing your love and idolizing-behaviors towards things that are only temporary.
Our Lord God is first and shall remain this way at all times. If possessions matter most to you, that you are unable to let them go at any moment, then so be it. Understand that if you put your faith in material things that is where your heart will be. Our Lord explains this in the above passage.
Again in Matthew 6:22-23, Jesus says: “The light of the body is the eye. If therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light; but if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!”
This passage is in regards to a metaphoric comparison between the eye of the body being like the light in a house. As long, as the eye is strong and comprehensive, it will sustain contentment. However, if the eye is blinded by darkness and disease, the human life will possess darkness and blindness. Through the following of the teachings of the Gospels, the follower of Christ attains his or her sight and insight needed to spread the light of our Lord to the world.
Finally in Matthew 6:24, Jesus concludes this section with, “No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
God is the ultimate Master and Judge of all humans on earth. It should be understood that our Lord Jesus comes before all others, despite their “status” or level. Jesus overcomes all leaders of power and wealth. Our Lord Jesus has all power and can make things happen, as He wishes. This implies that Jesus has the final say in all situations. Be sure you are loyal to Jesus and only Him!
Be mindful of your actions. Ensure that you are putting our Lord in His Rightful place always, Do not close your heart from Him. Our Lord is so loving and compassionate. He only wants us to be happy and to love Him. So, do as our Lord Jesus wishes. Love one another as yourself, and place our Lord as the focus in our lives!
