On Sept. 23, Shanghai General Motors and Shanghai Disney Resort announced they have signed an agreement for a long-term strategic alliance that will feature the Chevrolet brand at the resort. As part of the strategic alliance, Chevrolet becomes the official car of Shanghai Disney Resort. The agreement also will feature Chevrolet’s presence in the Shanghai Disneyland park as the resort continues to makes announcments about its pre-opening development.
In making the announcement about it agreement with Shanghai Disney Resort, Shanghai General Motors offered few details, but did reveal two notable elements. Chevrolet. First, Chevrolet will enjoy an “integrated brand presence” with what is described as large-scale iconic attraction at Shanghai Disneyland. Second, the two entities will work together in creating a stand-alone attraction for Shanghai Disneyland that features Chevrolet.
No details on the stand-alone attractions have been released, including its name. That said, Disney and More, an unofficial Disney site, suggests the attraction might the “TRON” coaster that has been rumored to be part of the park.
“Disney and General Motors have a long-standing relationship with a number of alliances around the world, and this strategic alliance in Shanghai demonstrates our shared commitment to this important market,” said Philippe Gas, general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort in a press release. “Shanghai Disney Resort is dedicated to providing world-class family entertainment experiences to the people of China, and we are excited to work with Shanghai GM to together create memorable guest experience.”

Chevrolet’s featured presence in Shanghai Disneyland is the latest pre-opening developments for the resort. Disney Parks Blog announced today that Walt Disney Imagineering has received a Technology in Architectural Practice Award from the American Institute of Architects for its work on Shanghai Disneyland’s Enchanted Storybook Castle.
Shanghai Disney Resort is a joint venture between The Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group. Shanghai Disney Resort will be the first Disney theme-park resort to open mainland China. It will also be the second to operate within Greater China; Hong Kong Disneyland opened in 2005. Shanghai Disney Resort is expected to open sometime in 2015, although no official opening date has been set.
