ABC’s hit unscripted series “Shark Tank” returns for season six on Sept. 26, much to the delight of its millions of fans. As posted by the network on Medianet, the new season will be packed with heated arguments and hot tempers, cool business deals, touching moments, and plenty of wheeling and dealing by the country’s top deal makers: venture capitalist Kevin O’Leary; billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban; “Queen of QVC” Lori Greiner; real estate mogul Barbara Corcoran; and technology guru Robert Herbage. Nick Woodman, billionaire founder of GoPro, is set to serve as a guest shark in multiple episodes throughout season six.
The premise of “Shark Tank” is simple, yet brilliant. Daring entrepreneurs and inventors enter the tank with one goal in mind – to secure funding from the sharks to turn their dreams into million dollar realities. However, it’s rarely an easy pitch. The sharks are hungry for a deal, but cautious and hard to convince. Many hopefuls walk out of the tank without a dime.
On the flip side, when the crafty sharks hear a pitch that piques their curiosity, they’ll go to battle and fight each other furiously for a piece of the action. Over the past five seasons, the sharks have offered more than $45 million to bankroll a creative array of innovators and entrepreneurs. According to Wall Street Insanity, the biggest “Shark Tank” success stories include Ava the Elephant children’s medicine dropper, Chordbuddy (a device that helps people play the guitar), Citikitty no-mess litter box, specialty Daisy Cakes, Copa Di Vino single serve wine, and Painted Pretzel gourmet pretzel jars.
The best part of “Shark Tank” is that even the losers are winners. The publicity they receive from national TV exposure is invaluable. As reported by the Virginian-Pilot on Sept. 24, the “Shark Tank effect” can boost sales into the stratosphere literally overnight. An inventor of fruit-infused water didn’t get a deal from any of the sharks, but his sales rocketed to $250,000 right after his appearance on the show.
“Shark Tank” returns on Friday night with a fresh round of deals and dismissals. Two new back-to-back episodes will feature a baby blanket, a floating coffee mug, athletic socks, a mobile wedding chapel, a nail salon for men, and a line of inspirational toys for girls. The new season will also include themed shows for college students and veteran entrepreneurs. In addition, returning inventors will be given a second chance to pitch the sharks. Episodes will continue to include follow-up stories, allowing viewers the opportunity to see how some investments led to huge success.
The sixth season of “Shark Tank” premieres from 8-10 pm EST on Friday, Sept. 26 on ABC. Season five was a huge ratings success with double digit increases and a loyal audience of close to ten million viewers. The hugely popular series will reach its milestone 100th episode in November 2014.
