According to Latino-Review on Saturday, pre-production has been in the works for the remake of “Escape From New York” for quite some time now and even though Kurt Russell will always be the original Snake Plissken, there is a rumored list of actors available for the eye patch wearing tough guy. Quite a few actors have been rumored to play the starring role and according to Starlog, it has a reported list of actors available for said character.
The source indicated that Silver Pictures has whittled the selection down to three actors. Jon Bernthal of AMC’s “The Walking Dead”, Dan Stevens of “The Guest”, and Charlie Hunnam from FX’s “Son’s of Anarchy.” Most notably Hunnam has the highest likelihood of taking on the lead role, but there could be a schedule conflict with Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim 2 which is scheduled for release come April 7, 2017. At this point the aforementioned source to take this short list with a grain of salt as nothing has been made official just yet and none of the actors have even read for the role.
It was also mentioned that the film will be “more team-based” as Plissken acquires rogue helpers as he makes his way through the city’s detrimental environment in agreement for freedom out of the prison penal colony in exchange for the rescue of the President of the United States.
Snake’s team include a comic relief character that’s schizophrenic in nature, a former crime collegue from a mishappened crime spree experience, a single surviving member of the president’s security team, and a war zone journalist by the name of Mina. Throughout the film will display the history of Plissken’s life by the way of PTSD.
