Enjoy your Labor Day weekend in downtown Hermosa Beach at the Fiesta Hermosa event hosted by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce.
The biannual fiesta began in 1972 and people have been coming back year after year to enjoy the vast amount of food and activities. This Labor Day weekend the event spans from Saturday through Monday and features a large arts and crafts fair, a variety of ethnic foods, music and activities for children such as a petting zoo and pony rides.
Additionally, the Kiddie Carnival area has a giant slide, rock climbing wall, face painting and several games for children three to 10 years old.
For those 21 and older, there is the popular Charity Beer and Wine Garden where one can try many different brews of beer and other cocktails. Those serving the beverages are notable city figures, including the mayor and city councilmen, as well as individuals from local non-profit organizations. All the proceeds are returned to the participating organizations to benefit the community.
Two stages will host musical performances, including tribute bands that will be rocking out some classic Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, Phil Collins and Crosby Stills Nash and Young to name only a few. Other genres such as country western and rhythm and blues will take place in the Charity Beer and Wine Garden.
Cool down with some sweet treats in the Food Court with a shaved ice or fresh squeezed lemonade. There are other fair-goer favorites like cotton candy, caramel apples and funnel cake. Take advantage of the large variety of savory eats and try one of the 18 different kinds of ethnic foods. Participating food vendors range from Thai, traditional BBQ and roasted corn, to Mexican and Greek foods.
Make a weekend out of it in order to enjoy everything the fiesta has to offer and so you can visit the beautiful beach before the summer ends. There are several nearby hotels and motels to accommodate a weekend stay near the event and beach. Hermosa Beach is a great place to surf, swim, kayak or paddleboard. Rent a bike and take the family to cruise around the beach after spending the day at the fiesta. There are plenty of activities in the city so the family can have fun the entire holiday weekend.
The fiesta is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 30 through 31 and Sept. 1 at the Hermosa and Pier avenues. A free shuttle bus service is available from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily at the Northrop Grumman Building R11 at approx. 30 Space Park Drive in Redondo Beach.
