Melissa Brouse, Public Relations Coordinator at Squaw and Alpine, in a conversation this morning, October 15, said that the resorts are looking to hire 1,600 employees for the upcoming season. She said that last year, the 2013-14 season, they hired 1,000. That’s a large increase. The expanded hiring should be a boon to the local communities, and certainly the skiing and boarding crowd will benefit.
In the press release on October 13, Brouse said that their job fair will be held on November 1, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The fair will be held at Olympic House in the Village at Squaw Valley.
The resorts are hiring “…across numerous departments including Ski/Snowboard School, Ski Team, Lift Operations, Grooming, Snowmaking, Food & Beverage, Retail/Rentals, Resort Activities, Sales & Services, and Transportation.”
Said Brouse, “At the job fair, applicants will be interviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Opportunities include full-time as well as part time positions. Interested applicants are required to apply online prior to attending the fair at squawalpine.com/other/employment.”
Anyone interested in landing a job should apply now, online, as the press release indicated that the hiring process has started.
There are perks that come with working at the resorts, according to the press release: “…includes a season pass valid at both mountains, discounts on food and retail items, complimentary lift tickets for friends and family, and complimentary group ski and snowboard lessons. Additionally, Squaw Valley | Alpine Meadows employees receive skiing and riding privileges at Sierra-at-Tahoe and 50 percent off lift tickets at Alta | Snowbird, Aspen | Snowmass, Jackson Hole, Mammoth, Lake Louise/Sunshine Village/Norquay, and Whistler Blackcomb.”
Stunning place to work, with great people, and all of that is thrown in too. Sounds like it’s time to do the snow dance and apply for a job.
Squaw and Alpine have initiated a new program to help with housing for employees. Dubbed Residential Rental Rewards, it is designed to assist winter hires in finding lodging in a tight housing market. “The program offers a free, bronze Tahoe Super Pass to homeowners in North Lake Tahoe and Truckee who rent their home or a room to a Squaw | Alpine employee,” which is a great way for anyone taking advantage of this program to score some quality time on the trails at Squaw and Alpine.
Homeowners who are interested should send an email to Human Resources at Squaw, HR@squaw.com. Questions about the program? Call HR at (530) 452-7112. This is offered to a limited number of homeowners, who must be approved for the program.
If you are looking for a season pass at the resorts, the prices will go up after Oct. 31. It’s never too early to plan for a great ski season.
