Several suspects in the beating of two men in Center City Philadelphia presented themselves to detectives yesterday, September 17 and today, September 18 2014. More are expected to talk within the next few days. They were caught using social media, you can read about that here.
It turns out, they were all working professionals, who graduated from Arch Bishop Wood, in Warminster, Bucks County. They were walking in center city when the incident happened. While cops may take their time making arrests, as they investigate to insure the proper charges are filed against the right people, justice was swift for one individual who has been implicated, Fran McGlinn, an assistant basketball coach has been fired and is not permitted to coach for any Archdiocesan School . Several years ago, McGlinn was a key player for the team but had to curtail his playing due to a medical condition, according to reports.
All of the suspects have lawyers. They are undoubtedly going to say it was self defense. More info is coming to light and none of it looks good for the accused. For one, does it make sense that two guys would attack a gang of 10 to 12 people who were taunting them? The severity of the beating is another, these guys need surgery. One needs to have his jaw wired shut. This was a brutal attack. Even still is the aspect that even if some of the accused claim to have never struck anyone, they did nothing to stop the attack and did nothing to get medical assistance for the injured
All appear to be working professionals and have been friends since attending high school together. Many have taken down their social media accounts. It may be too late. Cops will be getting search warrants and will get all text messages, tweets, voice mails they made. This evidence exists even if the account is deleted.
Many residents are fuming at the State Legislation for scraping the hate crime bill that was passed. Under the new terms, attacking someone due to their sexual orientation is not classified as a hate crime in the state. you can expect this to remedied in a matter of months. Due to this loop hole, the defendants can most probably expect the judge to impose an extra harsh sentence due to the brutal nature of the attack.
For the record, the administration at Arch Bishop Wood wasted no time in denouncing the attack that might have involved their former students. Some misguided people have taken to social media in an attempt to boycott the restaurant they went to, This is seen as foolish and serves no purpose, as those that work in the restaurant had no knowledge that the people dining there might have just committed a violent felony.
