The Christian Life Center in Dayton is hosting the Swazi 5K on Saturday September 13 this year in order to support their mission to help the declining Kingdom of Swaziland in South Africa. If you see their website, www.clcdayton.com, you will see many great things that CLC does in addition to their deeds in Swaziland, but the Swaziland Ministry is able to help a very small nation fill with people fighting battles against disease, poverty and early death, amongst other things that will lead the entire population to possible extinction within the next decade.
Although Swaziland has a beautiful landscape, the people are plagued by the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the world, and around 4,000 infants are infected each year among a rapidly declining population. The Swazi people have about 120,000 orphans and about 1 out of 10 homes are led by children under the age of 11, while the country’s population under the age of 15 is over 500,000. Their unemployment rate is about 40% and nearly 70% of its people live on less than one American dollar per day. Considering just some of these factors that the people of Swaziland face in their decline, the CLC is working to bring back hope and faith through their In Community By Community ministry.
Through fundraising events like the annual race and other events at the center, the CLC has worked since 2007 to put together their program to eventually build communities piece-by-piece within Swaziland and help its people build their faith and increase their life span for their young population. Each community will place a local church, help house mothers raise the orphans and abandoned or abused children in need of care, acquire land and dig a well and start prepping for construction of the community, and eventually build the entire community including church and pastor’s home and homes for house mothers and orphans and abandoned or abused children.
Registration for the race online is currently $20, and race day registration is available as well. The race is set to start Saturday the 13th at 9am, with registration available from 8:00-8:45. The CLC accepts donations for their ministry as well if you feel compelled to help the people of the Kingdome of Swaziland. Awards for the race will be given to the top overall male and female, as well as the top three male and female runners in each age group. This is definitely a very touching ministry worth considering if you are looking for a race on the 13th, so feel free to take a look at the Christian Life Center website!
