Admittedly, Ted’s Montana Grill is a restaurant we don’t write about nearly enough. The chain burger restaurant is one of the only restaurants around that offers bison burgers…and they are delicious. If you haven’t ever tried bison, it’s typically considered leaner than beef and tastes slightly different. Frankly, we prefer the taste of bison burgers over beef and if you haven’t tried it before, we strongly recommend Ted’s. The restaurant is a little bit tucked away in St. Johns Town Center, so you may not have noticed it before. It is located a few stores down from Starbucks near Maggiano’s. This small area also features M Shack right up the sidewalk, so one might consider this a burger paradise. We think both Ted’s and M Shack are fantastic if you ‘re looking for a fresh, better-than-fast-food burger.
For fall 2014, Ted’s Montana Grill is offering a season menu that features the return of some favorites, along with new items. One such new item is the Jack Daniels salted caramel “adult milkshake” featuring Haagen-Dazs ice cream, Jack Daniels Whiskey, and whipped cream. According to Ted’s corporate chef Chris Raucci: “We introduced adult milkshakes to our menu for the first time this spring, and they fast became a new signature favorite.” During the fall and winter season, a portion of the money from the Jack Daniels salted caramel milkshake will be contributed to Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry charity, which seeks to end childhood hunger in the U.S. Other items on the fall menu include:
- Farmhouse Salad with kale, romaine, roasted chicken, cucumber, Gruyere cheese, vine-ripened tomatoes, roasted corn, pecans, basil, and topped with lemon vinaigrette.
- Z Bar Chicken Sandwich: grilled chicken breast, vine-ripened tomato, jalapeño, horseradish cheddar, kale, remoulade, on ciabatta bread.
- Apple Pecan Crisp: Granny Smith apples topped with caramel, baked with an oatmeal pecan crust, and served alongside Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream.
Ted’s Montana Grill has an American West pioneer theme and the chef-created menu seeks to provide a modern version of hand-prepared, American comfort food. Ted’s offers premium cuts of bison steaks and ground bison burgers that have won awards. The restaurant chain is based in Atlanta, GA and originated in 2002. The “Ted” in the name refers to Ted Turner, who co-founded the chain along with restauranteur George W. McKerrow.
