It was a sensation of the taste buds!
We’d heard about this local phenomenon for a long time, and tried to get in to see him. Flynn McGarry had been serving up dishes out of his home in Studio City, Calif. for a few years, but it was all practice and word-of-mouth.
Then, he made it in the New York Times, and got a lot of press. He went on Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night show, and hit magazines. His story is incredible.
“I got interested in cooking at the age of 10, and that’s all I wanted to do,” McGarry tells Examiner at a night he held specially at Eureka in downtown Los Angeles. “I just tried out a lot of things after school and tried them out on my mom’s friends.”
His mother, Meg, is often at his side, and she’s roaming the tables to make sure the diners are happy.
“It’s great that people of all ages love what he is doing, and I’m glad he found something he loves so much,” she tells a table of a family of four, with a teen who isn’t much younger than the master chef.
The family still lives in Studio City, but Flynn stopped going to public school a while ago. He wants to open his own place by the time he is 19, even though he won’t be able to drink at his eatery.
It’s possible to find his special pop-up restaurant anywhere around the country, you have to be fast, though, because tickets go quickly. There is usually seating for about 100 at the most, and it costs about $180 a head. The best way is to follow him on Twitter, and check out his Facebook page, or his website: http://diningwithflynn.com
