In the tri-state area of Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky, more than one woman has gone missing. These disappearances have been enough to gain national attention.
The first is Megan Nichols from Fairfield, Illinois. She’s 16 years old and has been missing since July 3, 2014. Police have been working with the FBI to find her, but they have had no luck.
Joelle Lockwood, 30, was last seen on July 9, 2014. She was leaving a friend’s house on Park St in Evansville, Indiana. Detectives have been interviewing people and trying to track down leads.
In Warrick County, Kristy Kelley, 27, went missing early in the morning on August 15, 2014. She was last seen leaving the VFW in Boonville, Indiana. Detectives are looking for her, and thousands of volunteers have helped to search the county for her .
Dara Fine, 49, was last seen on the night of August 17, 2014. Gibson County law enforcement believes she went to the Hazelton Boat Ramp on her own accord. They are searching the White River for her.
Investigators have said they have not found a common denominator in the missing person cases. They, as of right now, have nothing that ties them together. However, while they will continue to investigate them as individual cases, they are keeping an open mind about the possibility of them being connected. The investigating agencies have been in close contact with each other.
Whether the cases are truly linked or not, the disappearance of four women in fairly close proximity over such a short period of time has other tri-state women worried for their safety. Gun sales at a local gun shop in Boonville has seen a large increase in sales. Women are buying pistols, pepper spray, and stun guns.
