It is so sad but true, most often a child that is abused will grow up to abuse an animal. Additionally, child abusers also abuse defenseless pets as well. The statistics are alarming, showing that at least 50 percent of child rapists and molesters admit that they also lived through abuse animal cruelty. It is unfortunately a sad and frustrating vicious cycle. If you as a citizen witnesses acts of animal cruelty, call authorities along with your local Rockford-area Humane Society as listed below or one closest to your home in an attempt to help save that animal’s life.
When a child doesn’t know anything but abuse within the home, enduring it and witnessing it to other family members and animals, they often tend to grow up as an abuser themselves. It is a sad but true fact that animal abusers frequently were abusers of their own pets from childhood. They grew up believing that a pet is only an animal without any feelings.
It just baffles me how anyone can look at a sweet loving pet with those pleading eyes and natural loyalty instincts, only to kick, beat and abuse it in any way. The revelation is that such a person looks to a defenseless being to feel more superior. It gives them a sick elation of self-esteem to accomplish such an horrific act without any remorse, which most often can lead to hurting others including humans.
Studies show that many will take out their frustrations and disappointments on either a child or an animal, rather than working through issues with another human! Animals would never think a human could hurt them; they can’t fight back, argue or talk back in saving its life. Animals never hold a grudge; after being abused, that same animal looks to that person for love and attention; how sad!!
Animals look to their humans as caretakers to love and provide for them, with their best interest at heart. In most cases, this is true; most pet owners love their animals explicitly like members of the family. It is so disheartening to witness so much sadness as televised and just can’t imagine all a poor animal must endure, often by someone who vowed to love and protect it.
Children and pets have no voice and cannot defend themselves from abusive people. We need to step up, keep eyes wide open and help those who need us; our love and attention. Please never look the other way when you suspect any kind of abuse and call proper authorities. It is a fact that most abusers were children that treated animals harshly; a big red flag that should be addressed early in life. However, most times it is not.
If children were to learn early in life that animals need to be loved and respected; treated with tenderness, attention and companionship, they would not have the tendencies to treat animals inappropriately. You may not be able to stop all animal abuse but always be alert and aware of your surroundings; if anything sets out a warning sign of possible animal abuse, don’t ignore it. Intervene and report it. Just think; you could actually be saving the life of a sweet, innocent, beautiful, loving animal.
