How many times have you used the excuse of gyms being too expensive as a reason not to go? Trendy specific workout focused gyms (Like PureBarre and Crossfit) can change up to $200 a month for unlimited classes. As much as I love both of these workouts, that’s as much as my car payment! When I want to workout, I do not want to be paying an arm and a leg for hour workouts when I probably will not get my money’s worth out of it, considering I’ll forget to go 9 out of 10 times. What if I told you it is very possible to workout, take full length classes and get toned and in shape all for no money at all?
It’s a fabulous thing, that YouTube website. So underutilized too! You’ll never know what you can find on there until you look! About two years ago, I started researching different online ‘personal trainer’ programs. I found a couple websites that offered full length classes and a workout calendar for a low price each month, but instead of buying it, I decided to see if I could find something on YouTube instead.
A quick YouTube search revealed to me much more than I could have hoped for. Believe it or not: YouTube is filled with certified personal trainers that have full-length classes on their for, you guessed it, absolutely free. After trying out several different trainers and programs throughout the past two years, I can safely say that I have found some great programs and have gotten in shape, all without ever buying a gym membership or spending any money on working out at all. (Well, except for those Lululemon pants I bought last week….). No matter what type of workout or what level you are in fitness, there is going to be something for you on YouTube. Here’s three of my favorite trainers and programs for you all to try out:
1. Blogilates. My absolute favorite online trainer and fitness program. Cassey Ho, founder of the Pop Pilates workout (Pilates done to top 40 hits music) has so much energy and positivity that you’ll forget you’re working out. Each month, if you sign up for her free newsletter, she will send you out a calendar that tells you which of her workouts to do for each day of the week.
Each video is from 5-25 minutes long and each calendar day’s workout will usually equal out to 1 total hour of working out. As well as regular Pilates class videos, Cassey does body part specific videos/calendar days for when you really want to work out a specific part of your body. Her positive mantras and modification boxes (for those who don’t feel like they can do a certain exercise) really motivate you to push through a workout. Her videos leave you feeling like you can accomplish anything and for that, I commend her. Check her out at blogilates.com or on youtube.com/blogilates.
2. Tone it up. Katrina and Karina, the Tone It Up girls, are YouTube famous for their beach workouts. Similar to Blogilates in their Pilates inspired workouts, the two best friends are noteworthy for their “booty calls” which is their call-to-action for Tone It Up fans to wake up in the morning and complete a workout. The girls post new “booty calls” on Instagram and their website often so that followers can have variety.
Along with posting videos on YouTube, Katrina and Karina post full workouts on all social media every few days for all of their followers to enjoy. You really get a sense of community from the Tone It Up girls, as they are constantly re-posting their followers pictures and praising them for sticking to it when it gets tough. Although the girls do sell a nutrition plan on their website, they also provide their followers with tons of recipes free of charge, on YouTube and on social media. Check them out on toneitup.com or youtube.com/ToneitUpcom
3. Fitness Blender. One of the more seriously constructed YouTube channels, Fitness Blender is not for the faint of heart. Some of their workout videos are much longer than an hour and promise to burn major calories. The husband and wife team behind the workouts, Daniel and Kelli, go back and forth between being the star of the workout videos.
Whether you’re looking for a good, long cardio session or a tough abs routine, there will be a video to fit your needs on their channel! My favorite part about their videos? No unnecessary background noise, music or excessive commentary, so I can blast my own music as loud as possible while working out! Look them up on fitnessblender.com or at youtube.com/FitnessBlender to view their insane workouts.
Whatever it is you’re looking for, you can rest assured that it can be found, totally for free on YouTube. So before you go and purchase a gym membership, search for what you’re looking for on YouTube to see if you can’t save some money instead! Chances are, you’ll end up finding a program you love and become addicted to YouTube…just like me.
