With news in the Miami area often filled with stories about youth violence, health problems in children, and families in distress, it is great to see people in the community taking an active role in promoting healthy children and families and a more positive future for the community. One such community organization is The Girl Rethought Project. The Girl Rethought Project is a non-profit organization created to help empower and inspire youth to develop a healthy mindset that guides them toward fulfillment and success and helps them recognize their true potential. When there are negative influences, unhealthy role models, and limiting beliefs presented, children often internalize those influences and manifest those self-defeating patterns in their own lives. The Girl Rethought Project seeks to help build positive, empowering beliefs and healthy habits. They offer workshops, empowerment seminars, and mentorship programs to help young females (and males) grow into positive, successful adults.
The Girl Rethought Project is presenting a special event this October to spread the desire for healthy living. Get Fit Miami is a free, fun and healthy family fit fair that will include health screenings, mental health awareness organizations, a Zumba wakeup session, bounce houses, obstacle course, a hula hoop challenge, live cooking exhibitions, live workout sessions hosted by professional personal trainers and much, much more! Get Fit Miami will be held on Saturday, October 25th, 2014 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM at the Ives Estates Park, 1475 Ives Dairy Road, Miami, FL 33179.
As described on its website,
The Girl Rethought Project, Inc. is a non-profit, social service organization that is seeking true social change in the community starting with our young women through our 5 pillar focus on the mental, emotional, physical, educational, and financial enrichment. We seek to help redefine the thought process of young women and men through specialized service offerings that include empowerment seminars, interactive workshops, and life-changing yearlong programs that not only challenge each individual to see beyond mediocrity, but also seeks to provide a road-map to do so. Although our focal point is young women we also operate as The Rethought Project which addresses the needs of young men and women.
We specialize in the redefining of the thought processes of young people ages 8–25, helping them realize who they truly are sparking the flame within through self-love, self-respect, and self-pride. Our vision is to inspire each young woman to want, achieve, and be more – more than their surroundings, more than what is primarily publicized, and more than what they believe imaginable. Nothing is impossible if it is believed to be so. Although our focal point is young women we also operate as The Rethought Project which addresses the needs of young men and women.
Through sponsorship we further our reach and help to change the landscape of the future’s woman, but we must start today. The Girl today will be the mother, teacher, and leader of tomorrow. We must ensure that those mothers, teachers, and leaders of tomorrow are well equipped.
While this event is free, those planning to attend may register online for this event. http://events.miamiherald.com/miami_fl/events/show/371562960-get-fit-miami
