Tonight’s Food Network episode of “The Great Food Truck Race” starring Tyler Florence was titled “Venice Beach Brawl.” With eight new teams ready to battle it out, they are vying for their ultimate food truck plus $50,000 in seed money. The teams consist of:
Lone Star Chuck Wagon from Houston, Texas. The three teammates are; Lance, Rachel and Andrea who hope to bring barbeque to the masses.
Military Moms; Carol, Michelle and Wendy from Fort Drum, New York. Their husbands are in the military and they show their strength by raising their families with the knowledge that their husbands may not come home.
Middle Feast from Los Angeles, California. Tommy and his sister Hilla with their friend Arkadi hope to bring food from the Israel to America.
Chatty Chicken from Chattanooga, Tennessee brings the family team of father Greg Sr., daughter Megan and son Greg Jr.
Beach Cruiser from Venice Beach, California. Surfer Gretta has teamed up with professional chef Shane and sous chef Nicole to serve Southern California food across America.
Let There Be Bacon from Cleveland, Ohio are three chefs; Matt, Dylan and Jon. They are devoted to one of the basic food groups in the North, bacon. Their plans to open a restaurant were put on hold when Matt got cancer, but he is fine now and raring to go.
Gourmet Graduates from Providence, Rhode Island, the three young recent grads from culinary school know what is hot and trending. They are; Keese, Roberto and Julius, and each have triumphed over adversity. Julius was born with cerebral palsy, but his speech impediment does not stop him from bringing in people to the truck.
Madres Mexican Meals from Norwalk, California. Javier loves to cook and got his inspiration from the women in his life, so he brought them along, his wife Senorina and his mother Luisa, to bring authentic Mexican to the people.
As the teams arrive on the wharf, Tyler gives them the instructions, and the grand prize for the winning team will receive a brand new food truck and $50,000 seed money. Each team was madly in love with their gorgeous truck. Each truck receives $200 seed money, which is not very much, and from this money they must create three signature dishes that describe their truck and while staying in Santa Barbara, where they will start selling.
As each team does well down at the beach, the Military Moms are a few blocks from the beach, and meet a Blue Star Mom, whose son is serving in the Marines and is deployed.
Each of the trucks gets a call from Tyler, who sends them to Venice Beach, the home of the Beach Cruiser. Tyler does not tell them that they will be visited by Sabin & Jim, working undercover for Tyler. They own Cousins Maine Lobster truck in Los Angeles and will be judging the food. Now each truck has to meet at the boardwalk in Venice Beach to see who the judges liked the best. The winner will receive $500.
The third place went to Gourmet Graduates, second to Beach Cruiser and the winner was Madres Mexican Meals. Let There Be Bacon truck was out of water, so they could not prep or serve meals, if they received a ticket, it would cost them dearly. So they closed up their truck.
The team who made the least amount of money would have to turn in their keys and go home. As each group held their breath, the most to the least were called out; Lone Star Chuck Wagon, Beach Cruisers, Madres Mexican Meals, Middle Feast, Military Moms, Gourmet Graduates, Let There Be Bacon, and unfortunately the last place team was Chatty Chicken.
Tyler warned them all that it was going to get harder – not easier from here on as he sent them all to Tucson, Arizona for their next challenge on “The Great Food Truck Race.”
