Lest the title confuse you, please know that it has nothing to do with American football. However, to confuse you just a little bit, please know that the title in the American state of Texas…Friday Night Lights… is when all of the fans of a particular type of exciting entertainment come together to cheer and shout for their favorites.
The tie-in here is two fold…the night of the week on which the event we’re pitching will take place and the amped up energetic talents on display. To make this all the more frenetic a pursuit, you’ve only got a few days remaining to make your winning play.
Here’s the story tied together in a relatively concise package with samples and examples included along the way.
This Friday evening, October 3rd, the 5th Anniversary Rosarito Beach International Mariachi & Folklorico will be hosting a penultimate event that many aficionados are touting as the equal of the following evening’s (Saturday October 4th) Concierto Extravaganza featuring three of the most famous names in the genre: Mariachi Espectacular, directed by the multiple Grammy Award-winning Alberto ‘Beto’ Jimenez, the two-time Grammy award-winning (and six time nominated) Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea, and el mejor del mundo, Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan. How can this be? We’ll let you…the ultimate patrons…be the judge!
All week long, students in the music, vocal skills , and dance techniques of Mexico will be honing their particular skills under the auspices of some of the world’s finest practitioners of these artistic endeavors. After the Inauguracion (Grand Opening ) ceremonies honoring them and the cultural skills that they are perfecting, the pageantry of a Banda La Guerra (Flag Presentation), featuring the banners of six different international locations on four continents, will be the immediate preface to, first, the Student Showcase followed by a remarkable amalgam of talent from around the world, playing, singing , and dancing the music of the host country.
And here’s where the fun really begins. From Tejas (OK, Texas) by way of Arizona, you;ll hear the incredible talents of Nizhoni Camille Begay, a young member of the Navajo Nation, who will be accompbaied by an award winning group from Tucson…Mariachi Tesoro de Tucson…who used to be her classmates in elementary school.. This prelude will be followed by two international superstars from The Netherlands performing with one of the finest professional mariachi in the world. Mariachi Sonnido de Mexico, under the leadership of the Festival’s co- Musical Director, Salvador Gallegos. Carolina de Holanda, a protege of the late great Maria de Lourdes, is a ranchera of phenomenal quality while the young Dwayne Verheyden is an accordion virtuoso who was just chosen as the Best New Instrumental Tejano Artist for 2014. Texas, Tejas, Tejano…yes there is a connection with Friday Night lights here, no doubt.
Ballet Folklorico Tapatio, under the Artistic Direction of Jose Luis Baca, is Tucson’s finest practitioner of Mexican folk dancing. The group is a past champion at the Rosarito International Competition and Senor Baca is the maestro who has been teaching all of the young dancers in attendance at the Talleres. His group will dance and Sonido will play before an incredible talent form another part of the world takes over the Main Stage. Her name is Junko Seki and she is originally from Chiba, Japan and she is joined…and accompanied.. by the super group Kotolan under the direction of Otto Granillo.. The evening’s unbelievable range of exciting plays including passes from one country’s super stars to another, will conclude with a performance by the Latin-Grammy nominated Trio Ellas, based in Los Angeles, CA Their new CD, which will be available at the event, Noches Angelina, recently reached #1 on the Billboard charts (http://youtu.be/S3xCG_KQzos).
Amazingly enough, this game changing night of talent will set back any aficionado who chooses to attend just $15. When this bargain is coupled with the fact that 100%…ALL…of the net proceeds goes to the benefit of the event’s sole causa noble, the Club de Ninos y Ninas de Rosarito, you’ll quickly realize that the entire evening might have been choreographed by a Higher Power. Some of you might definitely classify all of these miraculous performances in one place as a ‘Hail Mary.’
If so, that will be your audible…or perhaps, inaudible. It’s your call!!!
