A staple of the American diet for more than 200 years and the Number #1 vegetable crop in the United States, potatoes are considered a comfort food for many people and they are a good source of Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, copper, magnesium, potassium and dietary fiber. Clevelanders now have the chance to sing the praises of the mighty potato when they attend the 41st annual Mantua Potato Festival in Mantua, Ohio on Friday, September 5, Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 7. Mantua is approximately a 47 minute drive from Cleveland.
Mantua Potato Festival Taking place at Buchert Park in Mantua, the Potato Festival will feature a wide variety of foods made from potatoes including some unusual food items like potato doughnuts, potato cookies and potato candy in addition to pierogis, bread and pancakes and other familiar forms of potatoes.
The Festival will include several potato eating contests including a potato chip eating contest (Friday at 8 p.m.), a French Fry eating contest (Saturday at 5 p.m.) and a mashed potato eating contest (Saturday at 7 p.m.).
Saturday’s activities also include a Potato Festival Bake-Off with prizes awarded.
And don’t miss the Grand Parade being held on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Additional Festival activities include a Potato Sack Race, a corn hole tournament, a craft show, a Farmer’s Market and the annual Potato Stomp Race.
Among the activities for the kids will be inflatables, amusement rides, a kiddie tractor pull, balloon art and a Spudsy Dress Up Contest (for ages 2-10).
There will be plenty of live entertainment provided by various musical groups (including Tyrone’s Blues Sinsation and the Philip Fox Band playing Country Fried Rock N’ Roll) and there will even be a performance by cloggers.
Hours for the Mantua Potato Festival are 6 p.m. – 11 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. – midnight on Saturday and 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. Parking is $3.
