The Serengeti is a unique place in the animal world. After touring the Ngorongoro Crater we arrived at our Serengeti campsite just before park’s curfew at 6:30 pm. Visitors to the Serengeti-Ngorongoro Biosphere Reserve will easily see why the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro are listed as two of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. We had dinner and retired to our tents. Several times during the night we were awaken by the sounds of baboons and hyenas attempting to open secured garbage cans.
A sunrise flight over the Serengeti
A sunrise balloon flight over the Serengeti was the perfect way to begin the day. Next morning it was 5:00 am rise to get to the takeoff point for our hot air balloon flight. Enroute to the takeoff point we saw some animals. The hippos were returning to their watering holes after a night forging on land.
The Serengeti is an awesome setting for a hot air balloon flight. Some of the animal sightings during our balloon flight over the Serengeti savanna included hyenas, hippos and bat-eared foxes. After our sunrise balloon flight over the Serengeti we drank sparkling wine and dined under an Acacia tree.
Yes, there was a special dining experience waiting for us when we landed. After a welcoming cava we were whisked away in 4X4 safari jeeps to a table under a beautiful Acacia tree. There under a majestic tree, on the beautiful Serengeti savanna, we were served a tasty brunch. Such a setting can easily make you feel like royalty. For an hour or so we were transported to a world of grandeur.
We were so lucky to have seen some amazing animals and enjoyed a very special Serengeti dining experience. Both the setting and the service were excellent. It was indeed the perfect start of an amazing day.
More on the Serengeti
Later that day we viewed some very special cats of the Serengeti. The cats were definitely the highlights of the many Serengeti animals we saw that day. To be able to see all three of the big cats (lion, cheetah and leopard), in just one-day, were indeed rare. It was both good timing and excellent guides that made all of this possible.
Of all our Africa overland travels the Serengeti-Ngorongoro Biosphere Reserve tops the list. It was a once in a lifetime experience. I invite you to join me in my travels in Africa and elsewhere in search of the best in Spaswinefood. You may also visit my travel column at the Examiner.
