On September 22 Comingsoon.net posted the new trailer for the fifth season of “The Walking Dead,” and it contains mostly new footage from the upcoming season. The thirty second trailer contains spoilers for the new season including that the prison survivors make it out of Terminus and manage to reunite with the other group. The sixteen episode season will begin airing on Sunday, October 12 at 9 p.m. on AMC.
Cast and executive producers for the show have teased that the new season will be much more violent and action packed than previous seasons, which is evident by the new trailer. The first shot includes a herd of walkers inside of Terminus who are all on fire, which hints at the way the prison survivors distract the residents of Terminus in order to escape from captivity. That battle has been teased for the first few episodes of season five, and a major explosion throws many walkers into the air. The next few scenes show the prison survivor being bound and gagged while being questioned by Gareth.
Rick’s voice can be heard saying “It’s not over until we’re all dead,” over images of him covered in blood and pointing a rifle. There are more shots of the cast inside of a church lit with candles, which seems to be inside of Terminus, and could be where the group hides before breaking out of Terminus completely. Rick, Carl, Sasha, Tyreese, Michonne, Rosita and Carol are all shown walking through the woods together, so at some point Carol and Tyreese either reach Terminus or the other group finds them after breaking out. Some good news is that Rick and Carl will learn that Judith made it out of the prison alive with Tyreese, even though they thought she was eaten by a walker for most of season four.
Carol is shown screaming “Where are they?” which could indicate that she reaches Terminus and manages get the drop on a resident of Terminus, after realizing her friends aren’t around. The burning walkers are still invading Terminus, and Daryl manages to reclaim his crossbow and looks for a way out. All of the prison survivors looked in the train car must recover their weapons, since Michonne has her katana and Rick has plenty of guns for everyone.
On September 22 Wetpaint Entertainment posted the official synopsis for season five, which confirms that a major storyline from the comic book series will be a large part of the new season. The group will leave Terminus and head to Washington D.C. in the hopes of finding a cure, which Dr. Eugene Porter says is where the information about the disease is. The synopsis says the group will find “love and hate” as well as “peace and conflict” which means they will have some happier moments as well as lose some more people in the group.
The new season will explore the motives of Terminus, which the executive producers have hinted isn’t as obvious as it seems. That storyline will wrap up fairly quickly and fans will learn what Mary was cooking when the group of prison survivors first arrived. The episodes will also focus on who the characters have become after everything they have been through in four full seasons. The series will return on Sunday, October 12 at 9 p.m. on AMC. The first episode will be entitled “No Sanctuary,” and the first eight episode will air in 2014 and the final eight will air in the spring of 2015.
