A pair of thrillers hitting theaters this Halloween are sure to get audiences in the spirit of the season. “Nightcrawler” promises to be a twisty story with Jake Gyllenhaal stooping to new depths to play a desperate journalist, while “Before I Go to Sleep” stars Nicole Kidman as a woman dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic incident. “Nightcrawler”: Written and directed by Dan Gilroy, this thriller follows Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal), a man who, in his desperation to find a job, gets involved in the world of crime journalism in Los Angeles. As Lou and his team, including journalism veteran Nina (Rene Russo) pursue more and more sensational stories including everything from car crashes to murders, Lou blurs the line between observing stories to becoming a participant. Runtime: 117 minutes. Rated R for violence including graphic images, and for language.
“Before I Go to Sleep”: This thriller written and directed by Rowan Joffe stars Nicole Kidman as Christine, a woman who suffered an accident that results in her remembering nothing when she wakes up each day. She starts to question everyone in her life when she discovers a horrifying truth. Runtime: 92 minutes. Rated R for some brutal violence and language.
