Thor Christiansen was born to Danish parents and grew up in a Danish community in California. He exhibited sociopathic traits from a young age, stomping animals to death and strapping firecrackers to bullfrogs and sparrows. Thor’s father was apparently a hardcore alcoholic who physically abused Thor. He was, however, extremely intelligent and a good student until high school, at which point his performance began to deteriorate as he began to drink habitually before class.
His resident town flew into a panic as women started disappearing. Eventually, the body of one of the women was found. A woman had been apparently shot and kicked out of a vehicle in a secluded, wooded area. His fingerprints, fortunately, were left at the scene. Unfortunately, however, they had no way of matching the fingerprints to anyone. They suspected a white man who was a loner below the age of 30 who had a ‘borderline’ personality; unstable, difficulty relating to others, etc. While Thor was initially gregarious, he became increasingly reclusive.
Eventually, they found another body of one of the aforementioned missing women in the same canyon. It had the same MO: she had been shot in the head and dumped in the canyon. He later solicited a prostitute from the Los Angeles area, and drove to a similarly secluded area and shot her in the head. She survived, however, and grabbed the wheel of the vehicle, steering it off the road, and was able to escape the vehicle and contact someone for help.
She later saw Thor at a different bar and immediately called the police and identified him as the one who had done it. Investigators quickly recognized a similarity between her attempted murder of this woman and the successful murder of the other women. They later found the body of another prostitute whom he had murdered. Thor contacted an investigator whom he had previously spoken with, telling the investigator that he had to help Thor because the women ‘deserved’ it.
Thor pled not guilty by reason of insanity. A forensic psychiatrist said that repeated rejection of women because of his weight contributed to a gradual build-up of anger against women. He also exhibited substance abuse and impulse control problems. He later pled guilty for the murders. He admitted to the judge that he had shot the victims in the head and had sex with their dead bodies. In other words, he was a necrophiliac. He is suspected of other murders as well. Thor was eventually stabbed to death in prison.
