The Central Iowa Concert Calendar for Thursday, September 25 is headed by shows from Aaron Watson, Modern Kin, and Miggs. Find all the details on those shows and others below.
Texas country singer Aaron Watson (see slideshow) will headline a show at Wooly’s in Des Moines tomorrow night at 8 p.m. Watson’s 11th album, 2012’s Real Good Time, was his first to crack the Country Top 10 and Indie Top 20. After the loss of a child, Watson thought he might never right another song, but the singer credits the power of prayer for his ability to “get back on the horse” and put together what has been his most successful album yet. Des Moines’ Randy Burk and the Prisoners will open for Watson on Thursday. Tickets for the all ages event are $10 in advance and $12 on the day of the show.
Vaudeville Mews in Des Moines will host a concert doubleheader on Thursday. San Francisco pop rockers Miggs (pictured) will headline the opener with Terry McDermott and Kevin Lindgren serving as openers. Miggs released a new album entitled Son of a Gun in May and then followed that up with a new non-album single called “Walls Come Down” in late August. The all ages show will kick off at 6 p.m., and tickets are $8 in advance and $10 on the day of the show.
The nightcap at the Mews will feature a performance by the indie pop/rock band Modern Kin. The Portland trio (featured in the nearby video) released a new live album entitled Live from the Banana Stand on September 16. I’d Die For Lo-Fi will open the show at 10 p.m. The late show will have a $5 cover charge, and it is restricted to those 21 or older.
Bejae Fleming, Fat Sky, Strong Like Bear, Doctor Murdock, The River Monks, and more acts will perform at the Maximum Ames Music Festival on Thursday. Check out the full schedule of entertainment in Examiner’s MAMF preview.
