This is a “rewind” back to season one, episode six called, “Small Town Tragedy” (10/08/2013). This is a cable TV show & due to the graphic nature of the subject matter. Viewer discretion is advised. We follow a former prosecutor named Kelly Siegler & real crime scene investigator (CSI) Yolanda McClary, as they open a cold homicide case.
“Small Town Tragedy” opened with a girl named Ashley Holmes who ran to a neighbor’s house on July 9, 1995. She was naked & her hands were bound with rope. Her mom Mary Anne Holmes was beaten, raped & killed in front of her. Kelly said this was committed by a person who planned it all out.
18 years later, Yolanda says that testing the DNA evidence can now re-open this case. This violent crime left behind a lot of evidence. Homicide detective Alan Brown was brought into the investigation. Kendall Curtis was just a patrolman back then in the Thatcher police department. He was the only investigator because there were no funds to hire anyone else.
Mary Anne Holmes was originally from Chicago who was an abused woman. She brought her daughters to Arizona. She was searching for a man to be a good father to her kids. She was found bludgeoned to death & had been sexually assaulted for two hours after she was killed. Her daughter Ashley was tied up & her panties were cut off too.
David Black’s father owned the house rented by Mary. He became the first suspect who is unstable, but was in Utah at the time of the murder. The second suspect Phillip Turley loved Mary, but never asked her out on a date. He was also in Utah. The third suspect John Bursee was an abusive con-man who disappeared after Mary died. He was in Florida & that alibi is true. The detectives re-interview suspects & stage a mock crime scene of the murder.
There is no eye witness & no DNA match from the evidence. The third suspect, Phillip Turley doesn’t confess to anything who is diagnosed with a bi-polar disorder. The murder of Mary Anne Holmes is still unsolved.
