The popularity of the TV show prompted TNT to add 8 additional episodes for a summer run beginning June 6, 2014.
This is a “rewind” back to season one, episode three called, “Hometown Hero” (09/17/2013). This is a cable TV show & due to the nature of the subject matter. Viewer discretion is advised. We will follow a former prosecutor named Kelly Siegler & real crime scene investigator (CSI) Yoland McClary as they open a cold case.
“Hometown Hero” opened with Kelly & Yolanda heading to Blessing, Texas. On June 6, 1982 Charlene Corporon was found murdered in her home. She was shot in the head & was lying on her bed. Her son Gary was charged with the murder, but was later released. The case went cold for 31 years. Yolanda sent all the evidence to get DNA testing & it came up with no results.
Blessing is Kelly’s hometown & she brings in Johnny Bonds who is an experienced interrogator. They found that Charlene was shot with a .22 caliber bullet. The main suspects are Ben Frey & Gary Corporon who both had keys to Charlene’s house. She wanted to break up with Ben who was her boyfriend. Gary is her son, who would inherit the farm where Charlene had lived.
Both suspects are still living in the area after 31 years. Kelly & Yolanda interviewed Charlene’s family members. Her funeral was attended by a large group of people. Ben was rumored to have abused Charlene, but there were no police reports on that abuse. She owed him $27,000 to help run her grass farm.
The detectives went to Charlene’s home where they found her murdered. They all looked at the crime evidence photos & re-enacted what happened the night Charlene was shot to death. The house intruder walked into the bedroom & shot twice at Charlene. The killer then turned her over to make sure she was dead. Yolanda believes that the killer knew Charlene personally.
Kelly talks to the town folk & the murder was so long ago that she comes up with nothing. She & Yolanda also talk to the local barber. He tells them that Gary used to have two chow dogs. Kelly says that those dogs aren’t in the police reports. She believes that those dogs might have let Gary or Ben walk into Charlene’s house.
Who killed Charlene Corporon? Was it over money? Did Charlene have a life insurance policy? Did Gary collect on that insurance money after his mother’s death?
